1) Message boards : Questions and problems : Pi5 best to use PioOS or Ubuntu for fresh install (Message 113284)

My question is: what is the best way to install BOINC for the most compatibility for projects? Should I use 32-bit or 64-bit?

If you install a 32-bit OS, you can only run 32-bit tasks.
If you install a 64-bit OS you can run both 32- and 64-bit tasks, provided you have an alternative 32-bit platform in the cc_config.xml and have downloaded the 32-bit libraries.

You can always set your ARMv8 crunchers to crunch 32-bit tasks via
sudo dpkg --add-architecture armhf
sudo apt update --fix-missing
sudo apt install libc6:armhf libstdc++6:armhf zlib1g:armhf libfuse2:armhf libgomp1:armhf libboinc7:armhf

to be sure you get all, edit you cc_config.xml to have these lines on a ARMv8 system
<cc_config>
    <options>
        <alt_platform>arm-unknown-linux-gnueabihf</alt_platform>
        <alt_platform>armv7l-unknown-linux-gnueabihf</alt_platform>
    </options>
</cc_config>

Mind you: with the newest and latest upcoming ARMv9 SOCs running 32-bit taks will no longer be possible! (only applies when you are crunching on the latest high-end smartphone: Cortex-A510, Cortex-A710, Cortex-A715, Cortex-X2, Cortex-X3, Neoverse N2, Neoverse V2)

If you run a 64-bit OS on a Raspberry Pi 3, or a 4 with 1 or 2 GB of RAM (perhaps even with 4GB), be sure to install ZRAM as well:
add the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf (and then enable in real-time with the appropriate commands.)

vm.vfs_cache_pressure=500
vm.swappiness=100
vm.dirty_background_ratio=1
vm.dirty_ratio=50

To enable these settings temporarily without rebooting, use the following commands:
sudo sysctl -w vm.swappiness=100
sudo sysctl -w vm.vfs_cache_pressure=500

I don't see any movement or sense of urgency at the development stage.

Richard:
The bad certificate blocks all https communication between client and server, not just uploads.

I see a very high urgency at the development stage is needed

4) Message boards : GPUs : Linux only uses Nvidia GPU, not Intel IGP? (Message 94436)

In GPU computing there is this, not far from the top:
Intel GPUs: Currently Ivy Bridge and Haswell are the only Intel CPUs with an OpenCL capable Intel GPU, however future embedded GPUs may also support OpenCL. You will need to install Intel graphics drivers to enable OpenCL support. It's also needed to add a monitor or VGA dummy-plug before the Intel GPU is recognized.

I am crunching Seti Beta using the Intel UHD 605 IGP of my Pentium J5005. You need to install the Intel® Graphics Compute Runtime for OpenCL™ in order to be able to crunch, it won't run with the standard Beignet driver.

I get the impression that the app either doesn't want to receive 'Intel' as platform name, but 'Beignet', or that it gets 'Beignet' from BOINC and 'Intel' from the OS.

The GPUs are a EVGA GTX 650 and a Sapphire HD 7790. The 500 Watt ModXStream-Pro OCZ PSU died after a Win8.1 update, it just did not come up again. It had been running a few years 24/7 and was past warranty (OCZ have since stopped making PSUs altogether).

Both GPUs still work (using the 600 Watt PSU) and could run BOINC when the system still had its i3 2100, but not together anymore. In the past they had that problem too when the Intel OpenCL drivers (for the i3 2100 and it's HD 2000) were installed. Uninstall of the Intel drivers and disabling the IGP was enough to have both nVidia and Ati/AMD cards running together. After the dead PSU I could install the Intel drivers to no effect on BOINC and enabling a 2nd monitor on the HD 2000.

When the i7 came in with it's own crunching capable HD 4000 the computer would reboot when combined with either discrete card -as soon as BOINC starts. Uninstall of the Intel drivers and disabling the IGP now does not result in having a running discrete card in BOINC. Not running BOINC results in having all active video outputs active, running BOINC at the moment is only possible on the HD 4000.

I am no stranger to multiple GPU set-ups, but as of lately I'm having troubles on a Win8.1 box. It started thus:
After an update BOINC would no longer work with my two GPUs. I could use my nVidia GPU or my Ati/AMD GPU, but not both -as I did before. As long as BOINC did not run all was fine and I could use two monitors, each connected to a different card. As soon as BOINC started the machine would just reboot.

Then I upgraded the CPU to an i7-3770 with built-in HD 4000. Now I can only use the HD 4000 because adding either the nVidia card or the Ati/AMD card results in rebooting, even when I disable the HD 4000 -but only as soon as BOINC starts. I can connect monitors to each card when not running BOINC and have them working right along each other. I do have a cc_config.xml with
<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>
,otherwise I would not have been able to use both nVidia and Ati/AMD cards along each other in the past.

Can these projects be scrapped from the list of projects supported by BOINC?
This due to the total lack of support from the forum of the first and lack of even a forum from the latter.
There is total indifference from the Admin(s) for the volunteers and almost no processed WU is being validated.

Same here with version 6.13.6. Till yesterday I could run BOINC on Windows 8 (using version 6.12.34, running *AS A SERVICE*), using my HD 4770 as a GPU. Now, after a video driver update -from the guys from Redmond, using an AMD/Ati supplied driver- that's not possible anymore.
