Boincmgr auto-launches boinc client

Posted 1 Mar 2019 by Carsten Milkau Post: How can I prevent boincmgr from auto-launching the client? Apparently this behavior has been around for a long time (on Linux), but for some reason I have never experienced it before. I'm running the client as a service with its own user. Starting it as my UI user just because it happens to be stopped messes up things (e.g. reinitializes all projects in my personal home directory). |

Cannot connect to client

Posted 9 Jun 2010 by Carsten Milkau Post: I'm running into the same problem as described in this thread: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=3540 * client is running (verified using ps) * nothing interesting in boinc log * boinccmd can connect to localhost * boincmgr can't * password is correct (even tried manual typing) * boincmgr has read access to gui_rpc_auth.cfg (password is autoselected when connecting to localhost) * networking is correctly set up (checked using normal and reverse lookups with dig) * even that odd "can't determine fully-qualified domain name" disappeared after adding localhost.localdomain to /etc/hosts, yet still no improvement in connecting.
