It's a setting on the project websites (in 'general preferences'). It may or may not be present, depending on how recently that particular project updated it's server-side code (so you may need to check several projects before you find the setting).

Modifying the xml file will work, until you change the settings on via a website, in which case the xml file will be overwritten.

Thanks, found it in SETI preferences. Apparently only 5.10.14+ reads it, and my other 2 boxes are earlier versions.

There is actually a setting to make BOINC *suspend* after some time of inactivity (useful for laptops to make them get into sleep mode). Make sure you haven't set it...

"Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last X minutes (Needed to enter low-power mode on some computers)"

I finally found this setting, in global_prefs.xml. It was set to 3, changed it to 15 by editing the file and the machine now suspends after - wait for it - 15 minutes. I've bumped it up to 9999, it will take a while to see how long this works.

Questions remain, however. This value is also set to 3 in global_prefs.xml on my other 2 boxes, but the earlier versions of BOINC Manager seem to be ignoring it. Is this new to 5.10.28? Why couldn't I find it on a pull down menu? This doesn't seem very user friendly to me.

In 5.10.28 the choice is "computing allowed only after computor has been idle for xx minutes". I've tried this on and off, plus various times values, with no change.

If I re-install a previous version on BOINC Manager, will I lose the pending Tasks?

One of my machines, running BOINC Manager 5.10.28, has started suspending computation every 3 minutes. This time is extended if anything else is being sone on the machine, and BOINC restarts on any user input (moving mouse, keyboard, etc). It is almost as if it stops after 3 minutes of inactivity, instead of starting (it is set to run always). Two other machines, using the same preferences and running BOINC Manager 5.10.13, are working fine. This problem occurs with both SETI and Rosetta. I've tried resetting preferences, and playing with local preferences, with no effect. Any suggestions?
