Thanks for the suggestions Richard. I did try leaving the machine in the locked up stage for about 45 minutes on one occasion. No change in behaviour. For now, I'm steering clear of Einstein GPU tasks. I'll let the Big Brains sort out the details.

Richard's method of editing the xml file worked. I'm now back running BOINC Manager, including S@H GPU tasks, with no issues. Full details at http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_thread.php?id=11377 .

I wonder if we need a more user friendly way to select out individual projects without fully running BOINC Manager. If issues with any BOINC project lead to people being locked out of their machines, BOINC could get a very bad name very quickly.

I am having an issue with my laptop locking up right after BOINC Manager completes the connection and starts computing. I have just re-attached to Einstein, and from a post on their Forums I'm not alone with this problem. My only solution so far is to use Windows Task Manager to stop BOINC Manager before it starts. If the BOINC Manager starts, my machine locks up before I can suspend Einstein from within the Manager. I am using TThrottle, and have had no problems since I bought this laptop about 2 years ago.

Is there a way to suspend Einstein without allowing BOINC Manager to start crunching? This would allow me to narrow down the issue.

This was posted Monday on the Constellation Questions and Answers forum:

"We had a server crash resulting in a DB crash. In the moment, the server is not hosted on a emergency hardware with a slower internet connection. We are working to get a new server and locate them back to the data center."

Constellation has been down for several hours

Now several days.

Anyone have a status on the constellation Project? Their website is down also.

I get occasional connects to the site, but haven't completed a download in a couple of weeks. They all come up with various error messages, usually

"2015-03-02 3:03:22 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site"

But it keeps trying to send me WUs.

Hunker down folks.

They're coming to take me away
Haha, they're coming to take me away
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice young men
In their clean white coats
And they're coming to take me AWAY
HA HAAAA

To the disbelief of friends, I bought this when it came out, still have it somewhere. The B side is even more weird ;-)

On my copy the B side is the A side played backwards. No satanic messages however.

Morning all. Nice to see you are here.

Oops. Haven't posted here since the IDs at BOINCstats were messed up. Must fix that.

So what Sten is saying is that the new S@H will be just like the old S@H.

Added in edit: why did several posts just disappear? Why is there a funny name in my signature? What is the meaning of life?

I forwarded this thread to the EAH administrators.

This may have helped, I'm up to 6 days in a row with steady access to all of Einstein@Home.

I'm still getting no access to Einstein for about 3 days out of 4. No access right now, and here is the results of tracert right now:

>tracert einstein.phys.uwm.edu
Unable to resolve target system name einstein.phys.uwm.edu.

I'm using a small local ISP called Odynet. Just tried tracert on web sites that are working, and got the same message. Am I doing something wrong here?

Just noticed that this project had a big gap in sending and receiving work, and now the web pages all appear to be non-functioning. Does anybody know what's up?

Thanks guys. All the old stuff is being cleared out.

This is a new machine (long sad story about the old one..). I remember when I installed BOINC on the new machine in late August that the first attempt appeared to not work, and a second download and install had to be done. I guess there was something hanging around from the first install attempt.

The SEI WUs referred to were not on my machine before the install. All my old WUs had completion dates in mid to late to December, the new WUs are all September to November completion dates.

The Install Shield made a new BOINC data directory. I don't remember being asked, it just did it.

I just installed BOINC Manager 6.2.19, after getting a message in my old V.5 recommending this. I was running SETI and WCG.

After installing 6.2.19, all my old WUs are gone, including some in progress and some not started. The Manager now shows about a dozen SETI WUs with expiry dates in last month. WCG was completely gone, I had to re-attach the project and got new WUs.

Did I do something wrong? Should we be warning others about to install 6.2.19?
