Then let pings through and see if it helps Sorry, I don't understand you. I'm connected through big company proxy and firewall, and I suppose they will not change configuration for me. So how can I "let pings through" ? (I'm not networking expert, so if you can, tell me how-to do.) In versions until 4.7x there probably was no checking using ping, so these versions works here (and I'm still using version 4.71). Versions 5.x.x are not usable for me. Just because of this "ping" test. If I understand well, BOINC gives up communication before it tries.

If there is an algorithm which first try to ping seti, google, yahoo or whatever, and if it succeed then try to contact scheduler, maybe could be changed. First try to talk with scheduler and if it fails then try to ping anything. Since I cannot ping anything through my firewall (but can access google, seti, etc.), this can help me and others with the same problem. At least to get message about permission, like you described. But this is not surprise for me. As I reported few posts ago, I can connect to projects, ul/dl, report results, etc. using BOINC 4.71. What I cannot is to ping these servers. So if BOINC 5.2.x use ping to confirm availability of servers then I'm loosing. Anyway - I will send you an email with some IP's.

Use the program DrTCP to set the "Path MTU Discovery" and "Black Hole Detection" to NO and then reboot the system and test if it can get through. Then change those setting back to their original values Yes/No and reboot again. This at least might give us one small clue or rule out one of the minor theories as to what might be going wrong. Anyway - as I told before, this should be software for wide public and although I'll be probably able to tweak BOINC to run, I will not do it. I will wait for BOINC release, which can talk with servers by itself. In the meantime I will support seti through BOINC 4.71, which version is the last working with my company proxy. BOINC stay minimized, but there is icon even in tray. If you are in the same situation, as temporary solution try to open BOINC from tray icon and then close Manager window. After this minimized BOINC disappear. You don't need to kill BOINC using Task Manager.

Did downgrading work? Yes, you have to just install Boinc 4.71 twice. Don't know why, after first installation there are no *.exe files. Just reading a bit on IPX/TCP/IP mixing = potentially bad news. Would be interested to know if anyone with server 500 error problems is running IPX or NetBEUI please? This may be related but need to gather some evidence. Sorry to repeat across threads but need the thread owner to take a look thanks. Thanks. So far I can understand, I'm not using IPX or NetBEUI. If you want to be 100% sure, point me where to check it. I checked it in Control panel / Network connections / Local Area Network / Properties - went through all settings and didn't found any appearance of IPX/SPX or NetBEUI. Anyone have a suggestion? Hi, I get this message, when boinc is not properly installed and all *.exe files are missing. Installator try to run boincmgr.exe file, but don't succeed. Usually this happen to me when I'm downgrading to older version of boinc. (Versions 5.2.x don't works on my computer, so I everytime install newest version, try it, and finally have to downgrade back to boinc 4.71) Easy solution for me is to run installator once more, choose "Repair" after this is finished, boinc is working.
