In reply to Dr Who Fan's message of 25 Apr 2026:
Don't know what WCG is doing but its definitely BROKEN with no new information.on what they are doing.

Yesterday I had received 3 tasks, ran to completion & couldn't upload. Overnight, the WCG servers woke up and cancelled my tasks before I could upload them.
I had 60 tasks, waiting to upload, and during the night when the WCG server woke up, they were uploaded and reported. They are not possible to see though, on the Results page, because the legacy server (MariaDB), is no longer the production DB. The production DB is now a PostgreSQL database, and it is not yet in sync with the old legacy BOINC MariaDB, from where all the stats data comes. We're all waiting for the MariaDB to be in sync withe the production PostgreSQL database.

In reply to dskagcommunity's message of 24 Apr 2026:
I have tried, id failed so hard i had to detach fully from the project and reattach cos boinc manager still said "Download stalled" and thinking the files are still not there. no matter what i was doin. restart client etc. So i think that status on live files is stored anywhere.
You did shut down BOINC totally before you copied the files I hope. If you still had BOINC running, it still will think that the files are missing, and try to download them. Apart form the .exe files, you also have to copy the MCM data file e55b6bdba4ed0b4b6e315c6767d68e3f.txt Also of course while BOINC is shut down.

In reply to Jean-David's message of 24 Apr 2026:
I am getting new tasks, but many are aborted by project.

And some do this:

Fri 24 Apr 2026 07:41:19 AM EDT | World Community Grid | [error] MD5 check failed for MCM1_0247065_5011_MCM1_0247065_5011.txt
Fri 24 Apr 2026 07:41:19 AM EDT | World Community Grid | [error] expected d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e, got c433be0e6fbcee0fd3d5a0213cb5ed8b
Fri 24 Apr 2026 07:41:19 AM EDT | World Community Grid | [error] Checksum or signature error for MCM1_0247065_5011_MCM1_0247065_5011.txt
Oh yes, the system is bonkers now. Tons of Server aborted, and also some MD5 errors.

In reply to Hadrian's message of 24 Apr 2026:
I have downloaded some tasks and will see what happens. Unless my understanding is wrong WCG has generated a New Cross Project Identifier which I guess is why my stats are not showing in Free-DC . I will have to do a separate inquiry for WCG with the new CPI presumably. Why did they have to do this I wonder and not keep the old one which I have had for years.
Forget about the "new" Cross Project ID. I have had the same message many times previously, and it is not a new ID, it's the same as before. It's yet another strange new issue with WCG.

And it's not the External CPID either, it's what is called <host_cpid> in the client_state.xml

In reply to Dave's message of 24 Apr 2026:
Back again for me at least. Just downloaded four new tasks that are now running.
Yeah, it's back again. Strange very short outage.

Well, that uptime didn't last for long. WCG is down again:

First "server can't open database", and then "feeder not running"

Goodnight again WCG.

Yes, uploading finished tasks works, but step 2 of the process, "reporting" is not yet working. That part is still met with:
"Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable"

When/If, reporting starts to work, I will not ask for any new tasks, until I see that the system can stay up for longer than a day or two.

Website gone again. Sigh.....
I think it's time to forget about WCG for a couple of weeks/months, and do something else than babysitting BOINC on WCG. Even my patience have limits.

Scheduled Maintenance
World Community Grid is undergoing a scheduled infrastructure upgrade.

The website is back. I have shut down my cruncher, so I do not know if BOINC is back. I doubt it is....

More info now in that update.

April 17, 2026
More problems - this time issues with the data center.

Website/Forum Outage - possibly due to a service interruption in our cloud environment that hosting is working to fix and prevents us from accessing our running instances for maintenance, and may be responsible for other issues although this is currently unclear. Hosting provided an ETA of 1h at 19:00 UTC today April 17th, 2026, and we will keep volunteers posted as we get information and attempt to come back online.

BOINC Backend Outage Ongoing after brief success window on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026 - we enabled the BOINC stats dump after seeing the new architecture handle load and fixing the 503 upload issue. However, in attempting to fix the 404s on the download path by rebuilding the input files and writing them to the tmpfs cache from which downloads are served, we pushed several nodes into various failure states such as SUnreclaim slab memory exhaustion due to the overhead of writing each file to tmpfs en masse, and ill-advised queries run against postgres before EXPLAIN and without paging results to disk that backed up everything else waiting on postgres and caused soft lockup on the node. In addition to issues with the io_method = 'io_uring' setting in combination with our network-attached volumes for the postgres datadir, a setting we may have to change and evaluate before restarting. The naive "should be backup tonight" note in the forums by the WCG Tech was based on having recovered from one of these soft lockups many times in the past few weeks, and before understanding the reason for the initial crash or causing the later crashes on other nodes while attempting various methods of safely regenerating workunits that were throwing 404s on download after being assigned by the scheduler. We will bring the system online as soon as we are confident the results the scheduler will assign have download URLs with files at those paths, and the cluster is stable again.

Still dead!

The "back up tonight" mentioned in yesterdays update ("Should be back up tonight, was able to fix the upload issue."), obviously did not happen.
So, for now, I have 60 tasks ready to update and report, and not a single one left to crunch.

Edit: And now the entire WCG site went "forbidden"

Well, that didn't last for long this time either. Every upload fails with "transient HTTP error". A couple of more stuck uploads here, and I will not be able to get any new tasks. No panic yet though, I still have 54 tasks in the cache. All are resends (_2-_6)

All uploaded tasks suddenly reported. No new work yet though.
Some progress at least....

Edit: Stats export is now happening. BoincStats is now showing that WCG is alive.

In reply to Dr Who Fan's message of 13 Apr 2026:
I can access forums but can't upload completed tasks I have on my Android phones.

SSL Certificate is good until September...as I previously noted, they DID let the website DOMAIN NAME registration EXPIRE. Now Expires on 2027-04-08 (1 year from previous expiration). That's separate from the SSL CERTIFICATE.

Curious why the university would only renew the domain name for only 1 year?
Yeah, I obviously didn't have the ability to both read, and understand what I was reading, at the same time. :-) Sorry for that Dr Who.

WCG site works fine for me. The certificate is valid from 2 september 2025 02:00:00 and expires 3 september 2026 01:59:59. So, it must have been something else.

we expect completion between April 10th and April 11th, but no earlier than 18:00 UTC on April 10th

Noted, but no year given, so guesses please ;-)
Well, I have't got a clue of what year. However, who's in a hurry? :-)

Update from Dylan (The "tomorrow" he's referring to, is likely today, since he posted yesterday in his TZ)

https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=710613

Blocked traffic at the load balancer for maintenance, expected to last until at least tomorrow 18:00 UTC as there is shuffling of shards and files to go along with a new build of the workunit creators and some fixes to the BOINC build. Hopefully, will fix the drought/sporadic MCM1 availability and get validation up and running. I was able to do quite a bit of scripted validation backfill during previous outages since we rolled out the new stack, and test db_dump for stats, but as many have surmised sync is still a problem between the two systems which affects reporting of results on the website. Will have more info in a longer update on the lab website "Operational Status" tab after this round of fixes settles and we're hopefully in a better place.

Edit:

New update on the "Operational Status" page:

April 9, 2026
BOINC web traffic has been blocked at the load balancer for maintenance, all BOINC scheduler, downloads, uploads will be met with HTTP 503 codes until maintenance is completed - we expect completion between April 10th and April 11th, but no earlier than 18:00 UTC on April 10th to allow projected file transfers and migration of sharded database table records between citus postgres workers to complete. We will update here and on the forums if we expect extended maintenance over the weekend. Volunteers should expect that a successful rollout during this maintenance window will increase workunit availability, and put another dent in the validation backlog.
