I'm having the same problem on a different box after switching from ATI Video Cards to NVIDIA Video Cards. ATI Drivers were Uninstalled & then the NVIDIA Drivers were installed but now the BOINC Client won't Connect. It appears the boinc.exe pops in & out of the Task Manager Window. What do you want from the stderrdae.txt ??? and from what part of it, there' no date or time so at the beginning or end of it do you need the info.

NOTE: I installed Client v6.12.1 and the Client Connected ... :) ... What happened to the Messages in this Version, now we get Notices, to cut down on over head ???

You're confusing 2 things:
1) getting a program to run, and keep running,
and
2) allowing this program through whatever firewall may or may not exist.

Concentrate on fixing 1).

stderrdae.txt as mentioned by Ageless is where there should be error messages about things going wrong with the client.
Have you looked at this file?

It's fixed, I formated the partition & reinstalled the OS & BOINC is connecting again on that Box. Again, there was no "stderrdae.txt as mentioned by Ageless" to look at as I deleted\uninstalled & got rid of all the files in the BOINC Folder this morning when I couldn't connect.

The Boinc Folder? Which Boinc Folder where you looking in? The Boinc Program Install Folder?,

Or the Boinc Data Folder? Which is where 'stderrdae.txt' would be.

Claggy

I've been with BOINC long enough to know where to look for Files ...

I had already said there was nothing there & that I had reinstalled BOINC several times & that I had done a Repair install of the OS already so it stands to reason that there would be either no stderrdae.txt or there would be nothing in it if it can't connect at all. Thanks for the help though anyway ...

There's nothing there & I'm not attached to any Projects with the Box. I figured it might be a Project as I've had it happen before & by getting rid of a few Projects I could connect.

I still say the whole problem is that there is no localhost entry in the Advanced Window of the Firewall ... I'm installing a fresh copy of Win XP Pro now after formatting the Partition. I wasted the whole day and could have had that done already but thought I could straighten it out, that's what I get for thinking ... lol ... hopefully that will fix it, something was messed up because I even lost the Internet Connection on the Box even though I was showing a connection in my Network Connections ...

The boinc.exc shows in the Task Manager but then goes away. 64-Bit Version of BOINC ... D:\Program Files\BOINC

From what I can find out there is no localhost entry in the Advanced section of the Windows Firewall Window. There's a Wireless Network Connection 2 but no localhost entry like my other Wireless Box's have.

I did a Repair install of the OS but still no localhost entry. .

Just checked again & still nothing, the boincmgr.exc & boinc manager have been added to the exceptions list but whether the firewall is off or on the client still can't connect to the localhost ...

Having the same problem with 1 Box of mine, all it does is sit there saying "connecting to localhost" whatever it means by that, it's self I assume. I've un-installed and installed BOINC several times but the same thing happens, it won't connect for some reason. I was working up until this morning but I've shut the Box off for now because it won't connect. I can get on the internet with the Box so it's not the net connection ???

I'm seeing all members on the Remove list,
including one with zero credit.

I see him on the list this morning but he wasn't there yesterday so I don't know what happened that he wasn't had then he is so case closed I guess. I checked several times yesterday and he wasn't there, anyway I took him off the Team for no Production & lack of response from him. I get leery of Members like that because some of them try to take over the Teams, I know it can happen because I had it done to a Team of mine a couple years back and played hell getting it back.

Thanks for replying David, Steve

I'm the Founder of the PBToyz Team, it's a new Team & one of our Pre-requisites for being on the Team is that you have to be Actively Producing for the Team, at least for awhile anyway. If you Join the Team & Produce nothing then you'll be Booted off the Team, sound a little harsh but we're a group of Guys that just got Tired of being on Teams of 900+ Members and only 40 or 50 of them were doing anything so we formed our own Team.

Anyway we had a Person join the Team a few days ago that actually has no BOINC Credit & hasn't Produced 1 Single Wu for the Team since he's been on it. I E-Mailed him asking what his intentions were for being on the Team & that he had to show some Production to stay on the Team. Haven't heard from him at all and still no Production.

So I was just going to Boot him off the Team but the way it's set up I can't because apparently as long as he doesn't produce anything he doesn't show up in the Administration Part to remove from the Team but he shows up on the Team Member Roster. This should be fixed so whether or whether or not a Member has Credit on the Team he can be removed by the Founded I would think ... Steve
35) Message boards : BOINC client : BOINC 6.10.11 & 6.10.13 Excessive CPU Usage (Message 29523)

Steve, next time you see this behaviour can you check:
- That BOINC isn't doing CPU benchmarks?
- That the process taking up the CPU/core really is boinc.exe, not (like in my case) csrss.exe?

You can report back here.
Albeit, if it's csrss.exe that is taking up the CPU, you may want to report it on the Collatz forums. Then it's a thing with their application that Andreas wants to know about (I'm sure ;-)).

Had the same thing happening again while running Edge & Collatz on 1 Box last night, the boinc.exe was taking up 25% of the CPU and the System was very unresponsive and Continually Rebooting itself. It was definitely the boinc.exe & it wasn't running CPU Benchmarks.

I ended up dumping all the Edge Wu's & the 2 running Collatz Wu's to get the System Stable again. Don't really know getting rid of which one did the trick as the system was so unstable I couldn't get into the BOINC Manager to see what was going on.

According to the Server status page on their website, there's no work available, and possibly hasn't been since August.
So it doesn't matter if there's a gpu app or not.

I've run CPU work from there as little as a week ago so there is work available at times I guess. I haven't tried to get any since then though ...

Anybody know how to contact this Project ??? Their Wu's are Reporting Times which are way under what their actually running.

My 1 Box run's them in about 2.5 Hours but when Reported they only show about 1.75 Hours that they took to run thus shorting the Wu by 45 Minutes ...

Could be the EDGeS, I had to stop running them on a Couple Box's last night because they were wreaking havoc with them and they wouldn't run worth a darn. After I stopped running the EDGeS & switched over to the NFS Wu's those Box's ran okay again .

Okay will do Jord, I'm pretty sure it was the boinc.exe & not the csrss.exe that was taking up the CPU but I'll make sure the next time I see it doing that ... Steve
