I had this Posted in another Thread but the Thread won't let me Post to it so I'll start another Thread. For some reason the BOINC Projects won't Initialize when I do a new Installation of Windows 7 & re-install BOINC. I've tried several different Versions including 7.0.52 & 7.0.64 but they won't work either. There's nothing different I'm doing than I did to any other Box's I've built. The Client will Attach the Projects & I can get to the Projects using the Manager but it refuses to Initialize them.

When I try a Manual Update the manager shows I've put the request in but never actually makes the request to the Project. On 1 Box I did get the Projects Initialized & running by copying the BOINC Files from another Box but that hasn't worked on the other Box's & I'm at a loss why it's happening ...

I've had several Box's down since January because of this Problem. Eventually I won't have any Box's running, I guess that's not such a bad thing, will save me a lot of money & the headaches associated with running BOINC ... Or should I say trying to run BOINC ... ;)

6) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC Manager 6.10.58 Startup (Message 39181)

I don't remember now as I've tried it numerous ways. Anyway I think I found the Registry Key that controls starting BOINC on Login "DisableAutoStart" but changing the Value didn't start BOINC on a reboot either ... :/

EDIT: Changing the Value in the Registry & checking the "Run Manager at Login" Box seemed to work on 1 Box so I'll try it on some of the others ...

It should be "Start Manager at login?" in your Options

Yes I know, but I already stated I checked that Box & the Client doesn't start on login & the Box is unchecked again ...

EDIT: It shows "Run Manager at Login" in the Options for 6.10.58

How do I get the BOINC Client (6.10.58) to start up when I restart the computer after a shut down. Some of my Box's do restart BOINC & some don't. I check the Box for Restart on Login but that don't seems to work as the Client still doesn't start up when the Box starts. I've also tried reinstalling BOINC but it doesn't give me the option to start on Login either ... Thanks

[quoteI would have thought the fix of the gpu_active_frac bug would be enough to warrant upgrading to 6.12.5]/quote]

Don't know anything about that, I just run the Wu's and don't worry about things like gpu_active_frac ...

If the Boinc client and apps aren't shutting down when you exit the Manager,
have you by any chance unticked the option 'Stop running science apps when exiting the manager'?,
you'll have to Enable the 'Manager exit dialog' to see that option, (Tools > Display and Network Options)

Claggy

That's not an Option as far as I can see in either 5.12.4 or 6.12.5 ...

I'm in the process of Updating them all to v6.12.4, that should do me until the 6.15.xx comes out ... lol

v6.12.5 is out, working, and an improvement on v6.12.4 - until I can find the next bug ;-)

So far I don't see any reason to go to 6.12.5 over 6.12.4, neither one of them I care for. The Notice Window Popping up all the Time in nothing but a nuisance, and when I shut down the Client via the Tray Icon it never fully shut down the Client. I have to go into the Task Manager and Manually close the boinc .exc. 6.12.4 & 6.12.5 both show the same tendencies to not shut down completely ...

Why 6.12.1 ?? That's a development version and an old one at that. We're already up to 6.12.4, with 6.12.5 coming in the pipeline (I expect it somewhere this week).

I thought that was the latest one at the Download site when I checked for a dew Version of the Client, but I see now if I would have scrolled down a little further the 6.12.4 was there. I downloaded that one now but as long as 6.12.1 is working I'll just go with that for now. I was still on 6.10.57, I don't update that often & as long as things are working that's good enough for me.

Had the same thing happen on another Box Messing around switching Video Cards and a Update to the v6.12.1 Client fixed it. Even if I don't know what causes it at Least I have a fix for it if nothing else ... :)

What do you want from the stderrdae.txt ??? and from what part of it, there' no date or time so at the beginning or end of it do you need the info.

That's easy ;-)

Just rename or delete stderrdae.txt before starting BOINC, then all messages in the newly created one will be up to date.

Gundolf

I'll try & remember that if it happens again ...

The reason was to cut down on the panic/worry of new users on first seeing some of them and then thinking that there was something wrong.

I was Panicky & Worried when I didn't see any Messages lol ... ;)

I already found where they went to in the other menu as Jord said ...
