Can you double check in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run how many entries there are for boincmgr.exe /a /s ?

Can you also check if you have an entry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BOINC and if so, what is in it?

I have checked both pathes:

1: only one entry
2: no entry

Yes, I splitted the directories like I did since the option was available. But, you´re remark with the user rights is the golden goal. I checked the permissions and my useraccount was missing. After manual addition boinc worked well with data-directory "C:\Boinc".

The error, I think, comes from copying the data-directory of the old windows installation on an other partition as a backup. After installation of the new OS I copied this folder back to C:, but the user rights were not changed, so I have had no permission to the folder.

Anyway, with your help the problem was solved and boinc works well.

Thank you!

Hi Ageless,

thank you for your help. I have done what you mentioned and then started again. I have seen again two clients in the taskmanager. One was killed by windows after a few seconds. The manager started to connect to the remaining client and after a while he could connect. The output was:

Will this help you?

I will try to remove the data directory from C:\ to an other partition to see whether this will help or not.

I think I was imprecise by naming my version RTM. The version I use is a fully licenced and fully functioning Windows 7 - Enterprise (64 Bit) which is identical with sold version from tomorrow. This version was downloaded from the Microsoft Technet, where I could get my version prior the official release date. So I don´t think that M$ will force me to buy another licence. ;-)

So, what is now the problem with my boinc installation? :-(

Hello,

it was a normal installation, everytime on the same account. I tried this:
installation with/without administrator rights
with/without allowing other users to control
boinc is allowed to communicate through the windows build-in firewall (first question from windows answered "yes"; connection to projects and the first connection between client and manager work without problems)

Ports via netstat -b: (after a functioning start of boinc)

C:\Windows\system32>netstat -b

I tested the 64-bit version above and 6.10.16 too, but I can´t start a boinc-session after reboot or shutdown of the manager. I see the following behavior:
After install or repair every boinc-version I tried starts well and connected to the client. A restart after shutdown of the manager leads to a missing connection. In the task manager I see that at restart two "boinc.exe"-processes are started and one "boincmgr.exe"-process. On "boinc.exe"-process is killed by windows after a while, but there is still no connection between the remaining client and the manager.

I observed this behavior on every version I tested: 6.10.4, 6.10.13, 6.10.15, 6.10.16, 6.6.38, 6.6.41

OS: Win 7 Enterprise RTM

PS: This problem started today after upgrading from RC to RTM with all updates. On RC 6.10.13 worked well.
8) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Problems with Upgrading to 5.10.7 (Message 11137)

Hello,

I tried to upgrade from 5.8.16, which works fine, to 5.10.7. After upgrading I received a message from the manager, that he could not connect to the server (internet is up) and I have to configure a standard connection. In 5.8.16 I didn´t have any entries in the Options-dialog, no standard connection or proxy-configuration and 5.8.16 connects well.

I´m connecting to the internet through a DSL-Router and a wireless lan-Router as AccessPoint. My operating system is Win XP Pro SP2.

Thank you for your answers.
