Ageless are you sure the idle detection fix is in 7.2.39?
I think it was adopted only in 7.3 branch...

(by the way, I tried to build boinc 7.2.39 on Fedora with that patch backported, but it seems it doesn't work either)

CRCOMPUTER, boinc 7.2.33 is now being pushed to EPEL6 testing repos, it's awaiting approval and should land in the next few days.

Sorry for the late reply, some time ago I managed to update the Fedora version to 7.2.33 and between yesterday and today I had enough free time to make a test build also for RHEL6.

I've requested commit privileges to make an official build, meanwhile you can manually download the new version from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=6502179

Please be aware that is TOTALLY UNTESTED because I don't have a RHEL system where test it.

Regards,
Mattia

Just tried with a fresh Fedora 20 installation, boinc 7.2.33. Using KDE or using GNOME 3.10 is the same, I get:
- "Run only after being idle for x minutes" does not work, tasks are always "suspended"
- If I set to run when PC is in use, "Run only when CPU usage is less" does not work, even setting 1% boinc tasks always run
- "Exclusive applications" settings does not work, tasks always run

So it's not a GNOME fault, I can reproduce the problem using KDE too. On Fedora 19 everything works fine (same boinc version), so maybe some software upgrade has broken the way Boinc checks CPU usage and executed applications... I don't know how boinc checks this, so I don't know what library to downgrade to check where the problem is.
5) Message boards : Questions and problems : Boinc manager can't connect to client using 'localhost'

I've updated Fedora RPMs to boinc 7.2.33 and now a user is reporting that can't connect to client using boinc manager.
I've verified that using 'localhost' as target it doesn't work, however using '127.0.0.1' does work.
If I link the 'gui_rpc_auth.cfg' file to my user home directory it works.

I don't think to a network configuration problem as downgrading to 7.0.65 it works again. Someone on distributions other than Fedora can confirm this?

Thank you

I'm getting reports from users on Fedora using Gnome 3 that this problem is reappeared (with boinc 7.2.33). Also a Ubuntu user has confirmed this.

What about rethink BOINC so that the entire subsystem runs as a virtual machine?
I mean something like the new LHC@home 2.0, but instead of have BOINC running a virtual machine, BOINC itself should be a virtual machine where to run different projects.
I think that in this manner many problems related to the use of different OS/different drivers can be avoided or, at least, project developers can easily test out problems by having a standard machine as background.
What do you think about this?

I cannot start Boinc Manager 6.12.22 in Fedora 15 (also in Fedora 14) due to library incompatibility:

Sorry if is not the right section to post this problem, I think is the most suitable.

In the download_all.php page I cant' find anymore development versions: if I open the url "download_all.php?dev=1" no develpment versions are showed. Is this a bug? Till a month ago there was version 6.3.x....

thanks

All other distros best use the command line client (and an older version of BOINC Manager).

So, when can we expect a command line only version for linux x64?

You do know that these 5.9.x versions are test versions? If you truly want to wait for the next version, wait until 5.10 is released to the public.

But else, there's still openings for Linux testers. ;)

Yes, I know.... this is the first problem I have with a test version. I thought this forum was the right place to report bugs, so I created this thread. ;)

Hi,
after upgrade to linux boinc x86 5.9.11 boinc manager doesn't run anymore. Trying to launch it from console give "segmentation fault".
No problem with previous versions (5.9.4).
