Hello Dave,

Any timeline on the next dev release that I could try out to test the issue?

Of course, I too believe David's fix should do it; I will report back here as well as on the trac wiki as soon as I get to try out the next development version of the software.

I did not enter any specific proxy-related information. The image compression takes place behind the scenes, the user has no option whatsoever on the matter.

Giving up on this host, because all methods proposed in this thread were tested with no positive results.

Looks like that's it:
16/04/2014 12:21:42 | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
16/04/2014 12:21:42 | SETI@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU
16/04/2014 12:21:43 | SETI@home | Started download of seti_700.jpg
16/04/2014 12:21:43 | SETI@home | Started download of ap_601.jpg
16/04/2014 12:21:45 | SETI@home | Scheduler request completed: got 3 new tasks
16/04/2014 12:21:46 | SETI@home | Incomplete read of 2382.000000 < 5KB for ap_601.jpg - truncating
16/04/2014 12:21:46 | SETI@home | Finished download of ap_601.jpg
16/04/2014 12:21:46 | SETI@home | [error] File ap_601.jpg has wrong size: expected 7653, got 0
16/04/2014 12:21:46 | SETI@home | [error] Checksum or signature error for ap_601.jpg

So your proposal Juha is to place these images manually into the project's folder. I did that a few days ago by myself just in case, but that did not do the trick. I will try again, since it comes from a more proper source...[/code]

Do you think there's any good in my reporting this issue in trac, or should I give up on this host?

OK, I have a first-seen situation here... I set up BOINC with SETI on a new host of mine that's connected through a UMTS/3G WiFi hotspot. The host has not been able to download any work, have a look at its link. The host is running MS security essentials as antivirus and nothing extra as firewall except from the system defaults.

All tasks fail download with error <error_code>-200 (wrong size)</error_code>, but that error is on ap_601.jpg image file and I've set the BOINC client to skip image file verification, this has been double-checked by examining the global_prefs_override.xml file. Have a look at any unit result Stderr output.

I know the internet provider is compressing images, but why would it not work with image verification set to off? Any hints?

After uninstalling/reinstalling everything BOINC, resetting project and making sure <dont_verify_images> flag was on, I noticed that all downloads started as expected (work units, clients, extra files, images) and nothing was failing until a .jpg was downloaded. At the same time the .jpg download failed, all work units downloads failed as well, which HAD NOT YET STARTED DOWNLOADING. Project client was still downloading as well. All other downloads except from .jpg files finished successfully, including work unit files, only work never started on them. Project folder has now two jpg files on zero bytes.

Any hints or ideas on the matter?

Not too healthy for any laptop, running 24/7 BOINC projects, unless it's constantly placed on a cooling pad. Even this way, as dust accumulates on the laptop's (miniature) fans, cooling will become less efficient and issues will arise. I would run BOINC on a laptop that's under normal use (that is, placed on feet or on the bed), but would try to set BOINC in a way that the laptop would stay so cool that the fans would not rev up too much.

8) Message boards : Questions and problems : CPU time setting not working properly

Hello,

I set up BOINC on a MacBook 4,1 and trying to find an optimal setting using BOINC manager's CPU time limit setting in order to keep the MacBook cool, with fans running on min. revs.

However, I am noticing that CPU time limitation does not seem to do what it's supposed to do. Any setting over 48% works fine, hence Activity Monitor (set to refresh every 5sec) reports CPU percentage very close to that set under BOINC manager.

However, if I set the CPU time limitation under 48%, Acivity Monitor reports percentages of under 15% CPU utilization on the project. Could this be project-specific (I am currently running seti@home, both tasks running are astropulse)?

As a sidenote (don't know if it's related), remaining time estimation has run way off, it's been 20hrs not on one task at 17% and remaining time reports 22hrs still; guess that's not right...
9) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC 7.2.42 installer for OSX crashes

Finally managed to install 7.2.42 the "hard way", by dragging ~/Downloads/boinc_7.2.42_macOSX_i686/BOINC\ Installer.app/Contents/Resources/BOINC.pkg over /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app and the installation completed succesfully, except that BOINCmanager did not start automatically after installation.

Don't know what's wrong, but it seems like the BOINCinstaller does not properly start the Apple installer on this system.

Hello,

Upon launching the installer on my MacBook 4,1 running 10.6.8, the installer crashes with the following error in console:
Job appears to have crashed: Bus error

Any similar behavior under OS X? BOINC 7.0.65 installs just fine.

The same download runs fine on an iMac 11,1 running 10.8.5. Could be something wrong with the other host, although I never had any issues.

Downloaded 7.2.39 and it still crashes, so it's not an issue with 7.2.42.

OK, tried numerous tricks, 7.2.42 installer still crashes. Downloaded 7.2.39 and it too crashes. Anything I could try?

I found a similar issue, though under Mavericks. Crash report is similar to mine and quite generic, I could add...

Corrupted installer, that crossed my mind, did not download it again, though. Will try it later today.

BOINC 7.2.42 installer runs fine on an iMac 11,1 running 10.8.5. Could be something wrong with the other host, although I never had any issues. Will try a later build and see how it goes. If you need any additional information on the matter, please post.

Next open BOINC Manager, advanced view, Advanced menu, Read config files.
Next go to the Projects tab, select Yoyo@Home and click Update.

What projects tab, Ageless? They can't even attach to the project in question in the first place...

I've been having this issue for quite some time now; BOINC has been translated to Greek among other languages and starts in Greek when the Windows OS locale is Greek. However, under every winXP and win7 setups I happened to try and install BOINC, manager crashes when trying to attach to the project, prior to displaying the projects list.

Switching BOINC manager to English seems to fix the issue. Should I file a bug report on trac?

Hello,

I am a volunteer helper and have been getting numerous emails lately for people stating that they cannot attach to projects. They are getting the following message from BOINC manager: "Project not found: The URL you supplied is not that of a BOINC-based project."

All users having issues are on windows, though I don't know the exact version. I have tried under a winXP setup under Parallels (I'm on a Mac) and attaching to project and stuff works with no issues.

Is this a known issue with the latest versions of BOINC?

Heh... looks like it's working now... Not sure what did the trick, the restart, or that I removed BOINC service (which wasn't running by the way), but I hate restarting anyways!

• BOINC Manager still displays the Preferences window at the wrong size (Have to stretch it downwards a bit in order to see processor % setting). This GUI bug has been around for -like- always...

• It's a bit difficult to get the resize column cursor when looking at Projects tab under BOINC Manager.

• I am using 40% for CPU usage and the screensaver comes and goes according to this setting. That is, project graphics show up for a second or two, then reverts to BOINC logo with "suspended" text and so on... However, I never used BOINC as a screensaver up until now, so I don't know what the case was prior to v6 BOINC.

• Alex Kan's SETI client works fine, by the way...

Will test setting as a service next.

Hm... is there any chance I should RESTART OS X after installing BOINC v6? I haven't done it...

Well, worth a try, there goes my month+ uptime again... Damn!

I've asked the developer to come by, yesterday already.

Now bear with me, I know next to nothing about the Macintosh, but which version of OS X do you have? Is it the minimum of 10.3.9 or above?

I tend to read the readmes very carefully... Yes, it's OS X 10.5.2... latest.

Regarding the matter, I can find no .plist file under /Library/LaunchDaemons/ as well.
