Did you attach to WCG manually (using your email address & password) and not using SCIENCE UNITED'S ACCOUNT MANAGER?

If you used the latter (SU) that would most likely explain why the account name is blank.

Please exit BOINC, Wait about 30 second and Restart BOINC. Wait 30 second then open the EVENT LOG (Control -Shift-E), post the first 30 to 50 lines of the log in this forum topic.

ARP restart update

The ARP team is preparing to restart after the project was put on pause in December 2022.

This article outlines the steps that we are taking in order to restart this project.

Project: Africa Rainfall Project

Published on: 25 Apr 2024

... Fortunately, Amazon Web Services (AWS) agreed to host the data, and thus began the process of moving the data. Since the move is complete, the ARP team has been taking steps to make the data more broadly accessible through the AWS platform, but this work is still in the early stages. Currently, the focus is on finalizing the preparation of new work units and generating the data needed to restart ARP.

... We have assessed that both approaches are feasible, and wanted to let volunteers know that we are on a defined path to restarting ARP1 in the coming weeks.

The timeline of a possible restart of this project depends on the information from the ARP team. If the code and data required is not fully available to us, we will need to build out the missing components of the pipeline for generating new ARP1 work and confirm that we are able to reproduce the same inputs as we previously received from TU Delft servers to validate the new pipeline. Regardless, there will be no change and no action required by volunteers to facilitate the process and when ARP1 restarts work unit distribution will be the same as before.

The project's database server is either down or ran out of connections at the moment. Please check back in a few minutes.

It'd be nice if there was a social media page for Rosetta, updated in the last 10 years, with a quick message to explain what's going on

You are asking too much of the Bakerlab people.... They can't seem to update postings on the project website nor remove junk/spam messages either.

Rosetta website & project servers have been unreachable for over 1 1/2 days now.
See https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=10279&postid=113919 and several posts after that. Since this is a University hosting the project in Washington State USA, it probably won't be back up until sometime tomorrow (Monday).

According to messages posted at BOINCSTATS...
It's been a dead project since at least November 2015.

So, there's no way for anyone to be running the project tasks.

On one task, the estimated time of completion has already passed and yet it keeps getting earlier!

I have seen same "feature" in Efmer's BOINC tasks monitoring program on occasion.

I don't think BOINC can properly compute this type of issue. Maybe open a ticket in Git to have the developers look at it.

Problem is with Asteroids tasks, not BOINC. I see immediate failed tasks from the project across several of my Android device and it goes in spurts.

All my Android device use latest V8 BOINC.

BOINC by default will only use the "P"-Performance Cores, of which your processor only has 6.

Some of the limitations are also Operating System (Windows, Linux) and software (BOINC in this instance) dependent.

I'm not a programmer/developer so I'm going to post some reading material below to help you understand the current limitations.

See official CPU specs:
Intel® Core™ i5 processor 14500 SPECS
CPU Specifications
Total Cores
14

# of Performance-cores
6

# of Efficient-cores
8

Total Threads
20

In layman's terms that is 6 real cores, 6 hyper thread cores & 8 Efficient-cores.

How to Geek explanation of the various core definitions:
What Are P-Cores and E-Cores on an Intel CPU?

Early-Adopter Problems
Since mixing different CPUs is a relatively new thing for x86 CPUs, there are some rough edges to be aware of in the early days. Developers of PC software previously haven't had reason to expect more than one type of CPU in a computer, so their software isn't aware of the difference between a P- and E- core. In general, this isn't an issue because the operating system assigns software threads to CPUs as needed, but there have been reports of some software (such as Denuvo) crashing or behaving strangely on these new CPU designs.

...

To sum it all up, here are the key facts you should know:

* Hybrid-architecture CPUs have both high-performance and high-efficiency cores.

* The efficiency cores save power and free up performance cores to concentrate on the most demanding tasks.

* PC software designed for traditional CPUs may get a little confused by hybrid CPUs until software patches arrive.

* You'll need the latest version of Windows to make the most of these CPUs, at least until older operating systems are updated

I wondered if it was the specific project that was broken but now I have seen it happen on different projects.

I my self have not seen this problem on Windows or Linux. More than likely it is PROJECT SPECIFIC.

Best to report it to Milkyway@home as an APPLICATION SPECIFIC BUG if you encounter it again. When reporting the bug to them, try to include as much information as possible.

Grumble... Is someone rigging the Powerball lottery?
Powerball $1.3B lottery drawing delayed over ‘pre-draw procedures’
Published April 6, 2024, 11:40 p.m. ET
Don’t rip up your tickets yet!

Saturday night’s massive $1.3 billion Powerball drawing was delayed, putting life-changing dreams on hold for eager players.

The numbers were supposed to be drawn at 10:59 p.m. — but the numbers were still pending by 11:30 p.m.

Powerball said in a statement that the delay was due to one participating lottery needing “additional time to complete required pre-draw procedures, which have been enacted to protect the security and integrity of the Powerball game.”

Every single ticket sold nationwide must be checked and verified against two different computer systems before the numbers are drawn, Powerball said
.

Almost 1 hour since the message and still no drawing!
