BOINC 6.6.3 problems - Vista x64
(Message 22775)
Posted 30 Jan 2009 by Kokomiko Post: Can't confirm anything of this errors. The progression and status looks fine on my 3 Vista 64 boxes, same as on my 9 XP 32 boxes. The disk folder shows all graphics correct. We have only one member in our team that told, that on a PC with 512 MB memory the background is sometime not redraw on switching back to Tasks, Projects, etc. SETI@Home tasks are also shown correct. Installing, deinstalling and reinstalling shows no problem on my Vista 64 boxes. The Tasks folder is my preferred folder and I never had a crash with the 6.6.3. The CUDA app 6.62 from GPUGrid is using less CPU then the Linux app 6.59, this is the first time, that Windows use less CPU power then Linux. A GTX280 need only 4 to 5% of one CPU core on a Phenom 9950 BE (2.6 GHz). A GTX260²/GTX260+ needs 2 to 3% of a core on a Phenom II 940 (3.0 GHz). A 8800GT need also 2 to 3% of a core on a Phenom 9850 BE. On Linux 64 bit the app 6.59 needs up to 7% of a core on a Intel Q9550 (3.2 GHz). |

Stange behavior of the BOINC Manager
(Message 22767)
Posted 30 Jan 2009 by Kokomiko Post: Since BM 6.x I see a strange behavior of the Boinc Manager. It looks, like the volunteers don't get longer the control over his own PC. Berkeley seems to overrule any intervention of the user to get more work for his preferred project by start and stop other projects (e.g. a competition). Only the percentage for a project can rule now the amount of work. Bu also this don't work trustworthy, so I get over 80 hours work for SETI although I've set SETI to no new work. Sameproblem I had with PrimeGrid, got so much work, that the PC start crunching in high priority mode. My work buffer was set to 1 day, the work I got was for a Phenom II 940 more that he could crunch in 4 days. Otherwise a project with high ressource share (500, all others together 200) got no new work. The BM 6.6.3 don't show the amount of seconds he is calling. That's not nice. I'm interested to know this. If the user isn't worth to get this information? If this come true, many user will stop spending PC power for the science. No one like it, that he can't control what going on on his own PC. |

5.9.x problem reports
(Message 9731)
Posted 20 Apr 2007 by Kokomiko Post: Just installed the 5.9.4 and [...] I must correct my posting. When I decrease the value from 0,25, BOINC try to load a lot of work, more than he can do in the estimated time. It's the same bug as before under 5.9.3. After new editing I found instead the entered 0,20 now 17250,00. When I stop internet traffic at the firewall for prevention downloading this large amount on workunits, BOINC immediately hangs. |

(Message 9715)
Posted 20 Apr 2007 by Kokomiko Post: I have checked the adjustment under preferences, network usage, additional work buffer and have the following result. QMC has downloaded 32 workunits with 11:09 hours after I change from 0.00 to 0.01 additional work. This was the second test with the same adjustment. When my PC has downloaded so much workunits, he don't change from project to project after one hour (as configured), he is now working in once over 4 hours on the same project (QMC). OS: Windows XP 32bit HW: AMD64bit X2 4200 BOINC: 5.9.3 |

Posted 12 Apr 2007 by Kokomiko Post: I have a problem with the 5.9.3 on AMD's X2 and Intels Dual Core. When I use in the german windows version under XP on the folder "Aufgaben" (Tasks) the columns for sort, the Boinc manager hangs and must be ended by taskmanager. This problem not exist on singel core machines. I'm here right for error description for alpha versions? Or is there another thread or mailings list for feedback available? |
