My wu have uploaded.
Awarded points compared ok between myself and wingman.
Might come back from running 36 hour 'long' tasks on SI_Dock.

Hello PMH.

Thanks for your posting.

To me, it sounds like WU generation has restarted and WU sent to volunteers.
They 'test" them by searching for two pending results -
replicates that have not been processed to the VALID state.(showing a processing bug.)

Is this correct?
if so, I have a couple of WU pending with completion by myself and another machine - both still in pending status.
Perhaps this is now normal and I/we simply have to wait a time for processing.
I this the case??

Also. at 4:30 EDT i received on WU and started to crunch it.
I was only 12.5% active, so I asked for more.
I would like to share:

i am please to help test. ( I have done design, code, test, and customer acceptance testing in my past.)
It would be helpful if the Kremsil/Jurisca team could be more explicit in letting me/us know how to test.

Again, thank you for the production status update.

In reply to Grumpy Bill's message of 23 Oct 2025:
The Jurisca status said:

October 21, 2025
Finally stress testing rather than correctness testing.
Sent a batch of 100,000 workunits (fast running, not full size in case something crashed.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.

My assumption is/was that a stress test is run on a fully operational system.

Doing a stress test without processing of completed results to both WU partners seems like an incomplete test - to me.

----
Also, I had several WU pending results that were sent to me on 8/29 and WUs returned on 9/24.
Indeed, if you were my partner of any of these WU - and if they went to the Great Bit Bucket in The Sky,
I would think that Jurisca/Krembil should tell us.

With that in mind, Looking at the Operational Status, I see that it is server-centric.
There is no status focused on the users/volunteers; For example.
1) Were WU sent to users lost? (whether or not they were completed?
2) If not lost, is the process the accredit returned WU existing? Repaired? In process?
3) If that process is restored, when will users/volunteers see their results
4) When is the ETA of Boinc Manager's graph of Host/User statistics going to work?
(What happened to our work?)

An explanation of events that are user-centric is ovedue.

Have our expectations been dulled by a lack of communication?

-- begin metaphor --
I understand the value of giving praise to the efforts of those working to save the ship.
I am not pleased by the lack of lifeboat drills and the explanation to passengers about the size of the hole in the hull.
Yes, thank you for telling us that the ship has bilge pumps.
You have not explicitly told us the ship will be made sea-worthy again, only that a speed trial is in progress.
-- end metaphor --

Thanks to Bill, Bryn, and Grumpy for their comments and questions,
Jay

Greetings,
Sharing good news.

Earlier today, I rcvd some MCM WU.
Just now, I requested enough to fill 0.5 day of work.
The new MCM wu have an estimated time of 1 day and 18 minutes.
I am running Linux on an older laptop -1.9Ghz Intel i-7, and the actual times have been running an hour or two less.

Cheers!

Connecting the dots...

Greetings.
I am trying to understand which problem(s) the database fixes are related to.

Specifically, see this in my BOINC event log.... Is this HTTP service problem related to database discussions?
Or, perhaps, I am missing a different posting in this thread?

Fri 26 Sep 2025 08:20:41 PM EDT | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU

Fri 26 Sep 2025 08:20:42 PM EDT | World Community Grid | Scheduler request to https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi failed: HTTP service unavailable

Or, has Kremsil just disabled the WU port until the database issues are fixed?
A explanation would help.

Thanks in advance.
Jay

a partially successful update:

At 11:00PM EDT Sep 19,2025, The WCG project responded to adding the WCG task.
but nothing was downloaded to
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org
but the sched_request_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml file was
downloaded to var/lib/boinc-client.

an update request failed.
Reported in boinc manager event log:

Hello Grumpy,
With your news, I started to go outside for a walk.
But now, there is a medium-heavy rain.

So. here is my communication status:

Trying to open the WCG website times out. (firefox)
and a ping to 199.241.161.110, times out at 3+ seconds.

I can successfully ping d0.org.afilias-nst.org and b2.org.afilias-nst.org .

A ping to uhncdns10.uhn.ca fails.

For a sanity check, I ping Ubuntu,com, sidock.si , asteroidsathome.net, and wzw.tum.de
All of those are successful.

Still raining here.
Enjoy your walk!!

Jay

Hmmm.
About the Message.....

The "System Error" message is part of the html.
<div class="bx--row">

<div class="main-content-header__description">

<h1 class="main-content-header__title">System error</h1></div></div></div>

So, There is no clue if there really is some sort of an error.
(soapbox)
I suspect that Kremsil does not want to expose what is incomplete - or not working..
(end soapbox)

No response from Universe@home.
No response from project home page.
ping -c 3 universeathome.pl -- failed
BUT was able to browse around the homepage of the University of Warsaw.
My guess: Internet problem.

Greetings,
I have had a Radeon/ATI 7700 for many years. It had a good crunch/watt ratio.
A few years ago, I bought an Nvdia card.
Problems:
An additional power cable is required.
The cable provided is too short to reach the motherboard
The plug of the cable provided does not match the the sockets of the cables from the power supply.

I suggest taking a close-up photo of the plugs from your power supply.
Going to a store where the employees can open a box to verify pug-socket mating.

PS
Also check the capacity of your power supply. Need an upgrade?

Message 97079
Posted 26 Mar 2020 by Profilejay_e
Greetings!!
I am running BOINC Manager, Version 7.16.3 in Ubuntu 19.10. [edited]
In ~/.BOINC/stderrgui.txt, the following two errors repeat:
(boincmgr:2373): Gtk-WARNING **: 01:28:27.866: Negative content height -1 (allocation 1, extents 1x1) while allocating gadget (node scrolledwindow, owner GtkScrolledWindow)

(boincmgr:2373): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 01:28:27.874: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkScrollbar

I *assume* that this happens when a full-sized window can't be generated on the desktop and a smaller window with scrollbars are needed.

Anyone else seeing this?
Can the error be ignored?

Thanks in advance, Jay

[edit] The same error occurs in Ubuntu 18.04.

Thank you all for your time and effort in answering.
That clears things up.

Perhaps an exception script could be developed that looks for words like 'native' that have triggered a response.
Maybe? Or something like Floyd's idea?

Thanks again,

Hello.
https://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php shows that LHC@ home uses AMD GPU.
I can not any sub-project there that uses GPUs.
Anyone know if there really is one?
Their FAQ says no GPU of any type. (last updated in 2015)
If this is true. Can the BOINC project page be updated to remove the GPU symbol?
Thanks,
Jay

Greetings,
I was successfully using the mesa ocl-icd driver on Ubuntu Mate on Einstein with a Radeon 7750.
(The driver that comes with Ubuntu.)

So I think I have a fix for your #1 approach.

My boinc logs says:
Fri 11 Oct 2019 02:47:56 AM EDT | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD VERDE (DRM 2.50.0, 5.3.0-17-generic, LLVM 9.0.0) (driver version 19.2.0, device version OpenCL 1.1 Mesa 19.2.0, 2048MB, 2048MB available, 512 GFLOPS peak)

i use 'aptitude' for package functions.
(sudo apt-get install aptitude) I just happen to like it and the man pages for aptitude.)

Try
aptitude search opencl and take a look. Here is what I get ( with the Installed flag)
i mesa-opencl-icd - free implementation of the OpenCL API -- ICD runtime

I would suggest
suspend and stop boinc
remove any other Opencl drivers for AMD that you have installed
sudo aptitude install mesa-opencl-icd
(check for any install errors)
reboot (your regular video should still work)
Start BOINC
Take a look at the beginning of the task log and see if the GPU was found..

Oh, and cross fingers..
Hopefully,
Jay

-------
PS
Sometimes, I hit snags. I am having problems with the Ubuntu Mate BETA release 19.10.
But I have asked for help over in the Einstein forum. (I'm getting runtime errors.)

Please post if the Mesa opencl driver works for you on 18.04..
