Should it be? Ireported this bug a long time ago on another update event. Seems this is not fixed.

Yes. I only run Win x64 clients and I don't do a service install.

I always let the installer overwrite the previous install without adjusting the paths.

This has only happened once before but it was a long time ago and it was between major versions. I suspect it's a similar cause.

As for the registry, I see that there are multiple reg keys with different paths and that may be cruft from the longevity of me testing client releases. It may be a worthy goal of the installer to either clean up or detect older/conflicting reg keys as I don't think it cleans up properly after a full uninstall.

I have BOINC installed in a non-default path of D:\apps\BOINC and the data at D:\apps\BOINC\data

The 7.9.x and 7.10.x installers aren't honoring the existing install paths, they're using the default C:\Program Files... paths.

When I re-install 7.8 it sees my custom paths on D:\apps\... again -- no manual intervention needed.

I suspect the newer installers aren't parsing the registry correctly to find the current install paths.

Re: 7.10.2 Win x64 installer

Both this and the 7.9.x installers don't see active projects when installed over a working 7.8.x install. I'm prompted to add a project to an empty project pane.

Downgrading back to 7.8.3 works fine. All projects enumerated and pick up where they left off.

Well, in this case GeForce Express indicated the driver was current but I forced a reinstall of the same driver and it then worked.

I updated my Win10x64 to the Creator's edition and BOINC was throwing the GPU unavailable error message.

A manual install of the latest driver fixed the problem. 381.65

I was having the same problem and I added exclusions for the two state .xml files to my config -- running NOD32 on XP-Pro.
