It was here this morning on one of my systems. As I said, though trivial, but I expect a trivial job to correct.

I noticed this today on one of my machines, 4GHz i7 PC, Windows 8.1 x64. As I said, if already fixed, no issue.

Fairly trivial but possibly worth a fix if it hasn't been done already. I saw on the website that a new version was available, My machines here have 7.16.7 and can see from the website that the current version is substantially later. However, if I click the "Check for new BOINC version" from the "Help" tabs at the top of BOINC Manager, it says "There is no new version of BOINC Manager available for download".
Also, that note looks to be specific to BOINC Manager, does this need to be the case?

I found the installer for 7.16.7 (x64) and replaced the current BOINC. That action did not fix the problem, I am still seeing this, on one machine only. I have the task manager window open now, and when it goes into the suspended state, the CPU basically drops to zero. This is very odd.

You have always struck me as one of the more intelligent people here, filtering you would not be on my actions list.

Hi Jord, it should be added as a bug report then really I suppose. It is simply a nuisance or time waster.

BOINC sends me a mail when someone posts in a thread I have subscribed too, that, sadly, includes posts made by people I have added to my twit filter, so I get the mail, click to show the post, and see " This post...".

Since the issue is restricted to the video out RAM of the graphics card, I did not find the need for any details of the system. I suppose a typical, "roll eyes" another dumb question reply was inevitable.
Why is the operating system of interest?
Why is the GPU type of interest?
Why is the system RAM of interest?

One of my machines started to show an array of small spots when the screen was connected. The spots move about in blocks if I move the cursor about. I concluded from that, there is a bad bit of RAM in the output stage, and the GPU is not the problem. I stopped GPU projects from using that machine, but thinking about that later, the GPU is okay, and it is most unlikely the output stage RAM is used by the GPU when number crunching, rational being I'd see patterns of all types on the display if the output RAM was used by the GPU whilst number crunching. Therefore I am doubting the wisdom of stopping the node doing GPU number crunching. Comments?

Bad example. When you write your novel, word processor packages invite you to save your file. If you have written a entire novel in the word processors workfile and not saved it, then perhaps a hard lesson is learnt. If I try to quit Open Office without saving, it reminds me that this is the case, often to the extent that you get the "are you sure you are sure" annoyance.

Perhaps it should have an uninstall option somewhere. It could then ask if you want to complete the uninstall. I see what you are saying, but uninstalling a software package, in my humble opinion, should completely uninstall the package, not leave stuff around.

I uninstalled BOINC when the tasks list was complete and returned. I still have the installer on disk, so re-installed. Two things I noticed. First, when opening the re-installed BOINC, I was somewhat suprised to see all my usual projects were already there. Obviously, uninstalling it does not remove everything from the system. For this exercise, it was quite convenient, but if I was genuinely trying to remove it, it is leaving some stuff behind, thus failing to do a good job. Secondly, I have seen the CPU is busy again with the newly installed version. I will move onto to Jords points.

Right. I've set "no new tasks" on all projects, they should wind down overnight. I'll do these when it is clear in the morning some time.
This behaviour is, obviously, not intentional. I can delete BOINC and reinstall it at the same time in case something subtle has got screwed somewhere.

>>> Did you ever DISABLE (set to NO) Suspend when on battery?

No. As I said above, I don't see how that could be relavent, since it is 24/7 mains powered. I have set it to NO now, and am still seeing the issue. I would also point out that my second practically identical machine also does not have that set to NO, and does not show the interuptions.

>>> Post your first 30 or so lines from when you start BOINC.

BOINC starts automatically at system startup, so it is not something I do exactly. There might be a log file somewhere though that has any startup messages, but I don't know what that is called.
