They certainly seem keen to get the jobs out, but perhaps completing the finished work? I'm showing 101 in progress and 221 Pending... Deadline is pretty short also.

This morning, a shed load of work units from DENIS@home arrived. These are crunching at the moment. It looks like this restart has not been announced anywhere, and that is perhaps by design, but none of the work units my system has returned have had credit, they are all "Pending".

Yes, the OS is Windows 10. I've changed the screen saver to "None" which hopefully will get rid of it. Thanks.

Nope, the screensaver is still appearing.

Thanks Keith, I renamed the screen saver executable, which would probably achieve the same result. I'll leave it like that for today and watch.

boincscr.exe -> xxxboincscr.exe.

Sometime ago, I started coming to my system and finding it running a BOINC screensaver. I've searched, but have not yet found a way of turning this off, how is that done. Secondly, a rather odd observation, every so often, not daily, but couple of times a week, when I stop the screensaver, the screen clears to white and goes no further, I have to restart.

All my completed stuff from early December uploaded, and a traunch of new MCM units arrived. Now these are finished and uploaded, but won't report. I've set no new tasks for a while. After an outage like that, it is bound to be pretty chaotic for a while. They don't have the capacity that was available when IBM were running it.

Yes Rob, I can see how it works. He actually did answer the question, which he says has been answered before, (I just read the thread looking for that...). I also have the task manager open and it clearly shows BOINC Manager using a little CPU, not very much though.

I let the manager run for a while this morning to see what was happening. Sure enough, the task showed the manager using a high percentage, about 60%. Clicking the arrow, I could see the task "it was running" was a collection of some of the BOINC tasks that were running. This seems to be a new "feature", a feature that I do not like at all, but can see a point, when new CPU chips have many cores, (more than mine for example). Is there a simple way of turning it off?

I've started BOINC Manager again to see what it says if I get to the point where the quirk appears.

My system is running Windows 8 x64. My BOINC is 8.0.4, and is not running as a service.

First quirk.
When I click the BOINC Manager icon I have on my desktop, a small box appears saying...

"Another instance of BOINC Manager is already running."

... but searching the list from the task manager, I can't find such an instance.

Second quirk.
Since BOINC started, I have had the habit of having the manager open in the upper left corner of the screen sorted by CPU percentage. It typically is showing the BOINC jobs clustered at the top of the list using 12...% CPU each. No surprise. Sometimes, however, I find BOINC Manager at the top of the list using 50+%. When I see that, I stop and restart the manager and things return to normal. I do not spend 24 hours a day watching the screen however, (my wife might disagree with that...).

I suspected a trojan/virus and did a deep scan with BitDefender which happily tells me, (eventually...), that my system is clean. I am holding off starting BOINC manager at the current time.

Comments or suggestions welcome.

I had also removed the project as requested, just tried to put it back from the Tools->Add Project menu item and it completed normally. I am running Windows 10 x64 on here and have BOINC version 8.0.4(x64).

That doesn't help you of course, but might narrow the search if it is still an issue.

I know, that is what I said. I was simply giving the OP a suggestion for something he could add to his system if he wanted to be running something other than Asteroids. I have it running on this machine, at the low setting, it co-exists with BOINC without any issues.

I recently removed a few projects but have seven left. I only have Asteroids work units here at the moment, I see World Community Grid work units from time to time, and a brief flurry of work from Rosetta once or twice a month. Generally, I think interest in BOINC as a platform for institutions is dropping. Folding@Home runs all the time, but is not BOINC based.
>>> They all have work available.
Maybe, but do they have work for your platform?

Problem with that is that a Service Install is greyed out and says it needs a reboot, which I can't do right now as I have another job running which has 2 days, (probably), left to go. It is now on my ever increasing in size "pending" list.

Okay, I'll set this up once the already downloaded work units are complete, there are only a few asteroids and a yoyo to go, so some time this afternoon. Cheers guys.
