I know, that is what I said. I was simply giving the OP a suggestion for something he could add to his system if he wanted to be running something other than Asteroids. I have it running on this machine, at the low setting, it co-exists with BOINC without any issues.

I recently removed a few projects but have seven left. I only have Asteroids work units here at the moment, I see World Community Grid work units from time to time, and a brief flurry of work from Rosetta once or twice a month. Generally, I think interest in BOINC as a platform for institutions is dropping. Folding@Home runs all the time, but is not BOINC based.
>>> They all have work available.
Maybe, but do they have work for your platform?

Problem with that is that a Service Install is greyed out and says it needs a reboot, which I can't do right now as I have another job running which has 2 days, (probably), left to go. It is now on my ever increasing in size "pending" list.

Okay, I'll set this up once the already downloaded work units are complete, there are only a few asteroids and a yoyo to go, so some time this afternoon. Cheers guys.

Yes, stupid, should have said, it is running Windows 8.1.

I am considering deleting BOINC and re-installing as a service so it will start to run without the need to be logged in, e.g.. if the machine recovers from a power interruption while I am not here. I am assuming that the manager will operate in the same way as communication with the core should be exactly the same. In case... (!)... there are things I am missing, are there things I am missing?

I don't have another screen myself, and wouldn't know how to get hold of one as a stopgap. I just hate to loose work units. i need to research current monitor technology, decide, order and WAIT. My last order took ten days to arrive. Thanks Richard.

Will BOINC projects run without me being logged on? I need a new screen. Until it is here, is there any point turning the computer on, hence the question.

I have very little use, that is not the same as no use. I have a hospital appointment I need to change, and they have quoted a phone number - current issue anyway. My sister in England also deems it necessary.

Until recently, I had no need for a mobile phone. I had a phone on my desk. It no longer functions, our telecom provider removed the phone option when they "upgraded" their service and router, as "nobody uses these any more". So what do I look for when buying a mobile phone. Obviously, I want it to be able to run BOINC, but frankly, I have very little use for it as a telephone, I use my computers normally. I see there are Android phones and ios ones, either better? Other options? What do I want?

Title says it all, project is running again. I tried to post this in the other thread, the last one about denis restarting, but it did not seem possible.

So do I. Trying to push BOINC is like trying to push an express train with a feather.

It arrived in my system, the spam filter sidelined it, (it has been somewhat aggressive at times...), I came here to find out the validity or otherwise of the undertaking. I guess it was right.

Use of BOINC is certainly in decline right now. If you read this jringo, perhaps you could post more information about who/what/why this is relevant or important. You must accept that anyone with any motivation can post something like this on an open forum, (...and, yes, I did look up and browse the website.. same comment applies).

I think the other socket is an "hdmi" type. There appear to be 3 types of hdmi, I am not sure which it is yet, I'll be able to see more in the morning. The cable I am using now looks like "dvi-d" on that list.

The monitor has a smaller socket on the back next to the one I am using. It is about a third of the size of a din socket but has a similar shape. It is a bit difficult to see now as it is dark, and the screen shades the rear from the room light.

Both of my machines under my desk have issues with their graphics cards. One pastes rows of coloured dots over part of the screen, not always the same place, and they can show variable colours, not trusting the memory, I do not allow GPU work on that system. The other has a noisy fan, which doesn't really bother me, but drives my wife crazy at night, so I switch it off until the morning. They are ASUS HD 7850 cards. So am thinking of replacing both and am here to ask for things to look out for when considering the new examples. I don't play games etc. so that is not an issue, I want cards that are quiet, long lasting and good BOINC crunchers. I open the floor...

<edit>
Sorry, just thought I'd add, the screen plug has a rectangular plug like a din plug with three rows of pins .

In the library in town are a couple of dozen PC's for use by visitors. I go in the library quite regularly, (my wife does knitting and every two weeks, a group of "knitters" meet in the library for a couple of hours chin wagging whilst "knitting" - I suspect the chin wagging gets exercised more than the needles... I meet her at the conclusion of these sessions and we go shopping), I asked if I could set up BOINC on these machines, (they are pretty basic, not fire breathing monsters, but, hey...),, the staff member referred me to some guy at the local council. He said no, saying he didn't like the license. That was, basically, end of story. I am now about to start the same exercise with the library in the town where my wife works which falls under a different council.
I am fishing for ideas to get this running there, and once running there, going back to our council for another bash.
I had tried, a couple of years ago, to get the national government, (Denmark), interested, but got a completely non-committal "under consideration - thank you for your comments" type reply. I suspect it is "under consideration" in a vast pile of things in a "cranks" dungeon somewhere.
