Posted 10 Apr 2026 by Profileadrianxw 		Whatever was causing this issue seems to have "gone". I've just rebooted this system, BOINC started by itself as usual, and projects have downloaded work. All is back to normal.... perhaps. Something else I did was close my VPN before the reboot, and have not restarted it yet as I only rarely actually need it, it just sat there routing my connection to somewhere else, (sorry, I can't remember where it was set to earlier).

Posted 7 Apr 2026 by Profileadrianxw 		Since updating to 8.2.9, the BOINC screen saver has started appearing if I am away for a few minutes. It never used to do that, and as you might have gathered from the title, is probably useless for the task anyway. Where is the setting to turn it off? I looked through the options and could not find it.

Posted 4 Apr 2026 by Profileadrianxw 		Curious. Before the update, I'd start BOINC Manager and just leave it open top left of my screen to just see what was happening, it rarely needed any action. Now, after the last update, I start it, and it sits there. blank, BUT, leave it for a couple of minutes, and it returns to its normal display of jobs running and waiting. So it is running, but that delay is new and repeatable. <edit>Sorry, it is a Windows 10 system.</edit>

Posted 4 Apr 2026 by Profileadrianxw 		I, as usual, downloaded and installed the update to 8.2.9 when it appeared. It did not restart BOINC. Rebooting also did not start BOINC.

Posted 12 Dec 2025 by Profileadrianxw 		Still some of the long SiDock units running, I expect them to finish this afternoon. They run for 10-11 hours on these machines.
I'm going to be a little "off the air" for perhaps a week. My kid sister in England has died, and I am the last member of my family still pulling Oxygen from the atmosphere. Crazy amount of stuff that needs to be done. Oddly, the item that is causing the maximum amount of mails is what I'm supposed to do with her cat.

Yes, I also receive a shed load of error messages. I have set no new tasks on the projects which I had added on that system and will let them run so they are not wasted. When I get to that point, I'll try to get both my normal adrianxw account and the other Adrian accounts deleted. When that is done, I'll decide if I want to try again.
I am seeing account(s) but at the same time, seeing No such account messages. I think there are some issues within the database.

Posted 8 Dec 2025 by Profileadrianxw 		When I join a project, I always use my regular account name, have done so since the old SETI@Home in the '90's. I connected this machine, a linux node, to the new spacious@home project, which started downloading work and crunching them. BOINC Manager on here does not show my regular name, adrianxw, it shows me as "Adrian", it also has left the Team field blank. If I try to adjust the name, it fails, telling me that name is already in use, but if I try to log in as adrianxw it says "No such account".

Posted 4 Nov 2025 by Profileadrianxw 		Yes, Windows also runs the BOINC core at boot time as a service, and crunching begins as normal. BOINC Manager does not run though, I start it when I need it, and can close it when I'm done, doing whatever was required, I have an icon on my desktop which allows me to do this.
The Linux machine also starts crunching when I boot it. It is when I need to adjust a priority, add, remove, suspend, un-suspend etc. etc. I need to start the manager.. I have, by experiment, found a way of doing this, which will suffice. I have not used a Unix system for decades.

Posted 16 Jun 2025 by Profileadrianxw 		Windows wanted a reboot after downloading some updates, (Windows 10 x64). I did this, but when I restarted, BOINC was not running, starting BOINC Manager, "Connecting to localhost" is showing. My task manager does not show my current BOINC jobs running, it says the system 2-3% busy. How do I fix this so that it is running normally again, and ideally, so that it starts automatically after a reboot.
