41) Message boards : BOINC Manager : manager not responding

Hi,

I've had what I can only describe as an unusual BOINC event.

My usual practice is to turn off BOINC networking, and then enable it, to watch as uploading and downloading occurs.

Today, the messages scrolled, the files appeared and disappeared, and then the manager display blanked, as though all my tasks had vanished.

I shut down BOINC (running as service), restarted it, and saw my tasks show up briefly, then vanish again with (not responding) up in the title bar.

I restarted my Vista machine. Same result.
I removed BOINC, restarted, re-installed BOINC. Same result.

I'd like to hear that someone else has seen this, and knows how to help.

Hello,

I'm a little disenchanted right now.
I just installed the new version, and it does not recognise all the work I'd started, or completed.

The last few versions quite happily picked up where the others left off.

I'm running Vista 64, and hope others have not had similar experiences.

The client wants me to attach to projects, and I've tried with one, which has produced no results.

Suggestions on how to resume would be appreciated.

Hi,

Access to the Milkyway site also seems to be unavailable.

Hi,

I've been hunting around a bit, and can't seem to find this anywhere.

How do I remove an account from a particular BOINC application?

I see plenty of information on how to join, but not how to stop my information from being included when I stop using a project.

Thanks,

Hi,

- update -

I was getting hung up on the install, because of the password prompt.
I was mistaken in the belief that I was setting a password for BOINC security, and not just entering my admin password to allow BOINC permission to install.

I guess I just missed that.

I'm up and running as a service.
We'll see how that works.

Thanks!
46) Message boards : BOINC client : faulty screensaver with climateprediction.net?

Hi,

Sorry to say it, but I had problems with climateprediction as well.
I ran it on my last computer, and it crashed the system regularly.
I found if I NEVER loaded the screensaver, it would run.
- unfortunate, since it had a neat graphic.

I was told it was not compatible with AMD, my graphics card, and something else I forget. I was not treated politely by their support, but I liked the project for other reasons, so I ran it in that limited fashion in spite of this.

The project units are huge, (thousands of hours) but you get credit in more manageable chunks. I gave up when the application errored out, after about 1000 hours.

I don't know if I'll run it again. They need some PR.

Hi,

Sorry- I got the terms mixed up.
I'd like to try the 'run as service' option.

Hello,

I've been running the GUI for years now, and thought I'd try to find some information on how to install the core client.

I saw the option in the install program, but it failed.

Is there anything I need to know to accomplish the transfer?

1. Do I need to finish the GUI work units first?
... is the data safe, as in new GUI versions?
2. Do I have to remove the GUI?
... that leads to:
3. Can I run both?

I'm betting no on no.3, since the install took out my GUI, but there's no harm in asking, right?

Now running a dual core, Intel, Vista 64.

Hi again,

sheepishly, I have to admit that the string was already in the password feild.
I wrongly assumed I'd have to enter something, and mucked about.
Sorry for the wasted space, but I'm definately happier now.

Thanks!

Hi fellow BOINCers!

It's a basic question, but I'm not getting it.
I'm setting up on a new machine, and was prompted to select a computer.
The "host name" translates to the computer name.
Now the toughie: what password does it want?
It's not my SETI password; I just changed that, since I've been logging on by copying and pasting that old login string.

It's changed, since I logged in here.

sadly, I won't be crunching until I figure it out, or get some help.

Thanks in advance!
