SETI's been denying uploads for a few days now...

I was lucky enough to get a whole 'whack' of work from my projects just before this happened.

I seem to have found the setting that keeps me in work- 2 days and 2 more for good luck.

Cosmology's back- well, mostly.
I was able to access the message boards once today, and sporadically uploaded work units.

Hello,

I couldn't upload Cosmology@home yesterday, even after checking the server status, which showed everything running. I waited, and tried again later- no go. Today I get:

11/07/2008 8:19:07 AM|Cosmology@Home|[error] Error on file upload: can't open log file

...and can't access the Cosmology home page either.

Best-o-luck!

Milkyway seems to be unaccessible.
I tried this morning and it connected and gave the message 'the servers may be down.'

Now I get a 'connect error'.

My dialup won't go to the website.

Being a little gun-shy, I thought I'd wait.

I've connected, and the LHC units uploaded just fine.

We're good to go.

I'm curious- from http://distributedcomputing.info/projects.html, I get

LHC unreachable, and their website still shows down for maintenance.

Can anyone confirm LHC is up?

For those that have LHC "issues":

Is there any site or resource that would yeild any information on their "maintenance" or when they'd consider helping the people who are now effectively given the choice of abandoning the project, or waiting on faith that they will help?

update: installation fixed.

I had all projects working on existing data.

On a sadder note, other projects I'd signed up to, are now failing.

Has anyone tested what options will fix this?

If the LHC WUs are aborted or deleted, will the problem go away?

Will the download that's causing it go away if the LHC WU is aborted or deleted?

Well, I can run again, just not upload or download.

Setting
<user_network_request>3</user_network_request>
in client_state.xml

let me use BOINC again.

Arthur C. Clarke was a name I heard, read about, read, and admired all my life.
His work, his dreams, and his hopes for a better future are an ideal to learn from. I can only hope more people can learn this. He left us a lot to build on.

Hi,

I took a look, and find I have company.
Yes, I'm running LHC as well. That would be when it broke.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I haven't lost anything, and it reminded me how to install properly again. I learned that much.

I wouldn't have suspected LHC. I've had tons of problems with Milkyway, and recently some with Cosmology, but this is the first I've heard with LHC.

I apologize to any BOINC people that are within reading distance. I was wrong. BOINC has been, and is still, the most reliable piece of software I've run across, using three OSs over the years. I use it as a personal benchmark for my machines.

I have added projects in the last couple years that are unfortunately not so well written.

Hi,

Back to square one -

I have a BOINC program that will look like it starts, and even shows the first screen sometimes, with projects or statistics.

Then it shows 'not responding' in the title bar, and all BOINC tabs are blank after that.

I re-downloaded, uninstalled, changed directories, and copied files OK, and the item I forgot and remembered "run as administrator" on the install.

Same again.

I'll see if there's any posts tomorrow. I'm getting slowly frustrated.

Hello,

In all the years I've run BOINC, and SETI for years before that, this is the first time it's been suggested that I lose the work units from all the projects I'm running.

I'm disappointed that an alternative wasn't found, choices given, or another help avenue suggested so that work wasn't lost.

BOINC has just gone downhill in my list of reliable software.

I have a simple policy:

If I get good service, I tell 10 friends.
If I get bad service, I tell 10 friends.

Sometimes, they even listen...

If I re-attach, won't I lose all the tasks that were running before the crash?

I thought I shouldn't, but I tried Einstein, and it promptly went and started downloading work like I was a new account.

I'll try again.

I tried moving the projects folder to C/boinc. - didn't work.
The boinc manager only detects one project, with no tasks.

OK- installed to C/boinc.
The manager seems to be running.
Where do I get the WU data to move, so that the new location will find it?

Hi,

I'm not tech support (I used to be), and I'm in no way affiliated with BOINC, or other pundits. Just some friendly help.

From what you're saying, you seem to have a video problem.
'no signal' from the monitor, and trying a second monitor, means that it's not the monitor. Good troubleshooting!

If your hard drive light comes on for a while, then goes out, that would indicate that your hard drive was detected, and something happened that was not displayed.

Try booting to safe mode, if that's possible, or checking the graphics card/drivers. (boot from system disk next) If not, a visit to the local computer repair may be called for.

Does the system do any beeps as it starts? Normally, if there is a system board or processor problem, it beeps a diagnostic code through the system speaker.

Hi,

I was running 5.10.45 in the default directory, under Vista Ultimate.
Since it won't run, it's currently uninstalled.

I did some tech support with Dell and HP, so if you'd like any other information, I'm sure I can scrounge it up.

None of my other applications seem to be affected, but just to be sure, I downloaded Superantispyware, scanned, and got nothing but cookies, which I normally delete before my AVG scan. Superantispyware has since been removed.
The system seems 'squeaky' clean.

The install was from my old download. (march 14) I suppose I could try to get another, if there are no other suggestions.
