1) Message boards : BOINC Manager : My BOINC MANAGER VERSION 7.2.42(X86) ISN'T WORKING.

I am having a similar, but not the same, problem as people in the past. My BOINC does not want to connect. Yes, I can connect using any and every other program so connectivity is not the issue. I see the BOINC manager down on the task bar(I have linux, but sometimes still us window terms.) The manager has a red circle with a white dot in the center and it says that it can not connect.

Computer
OS - Ubuntu 14.04
Memory - 3.9 GiB
Processor - Intel® Core™ i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz × 4
OS type - 32-bit

BOINC
Version - 7.2.42 (x86)
wxWidgetsversion - 2.8.12

Should I uninstall BOINC and reinstall? Is it the version of wxWidgets(which is what I heard was the reason)?

I too have a Linux box(Ubuntu 12.10) and I have not been able to get my Boinc((7.0.27)x86) to connected. And no, (LOL) it is not a networking issue. Browser and Skype and other apps have no problem connecting out. I have tried removing the manager from memory and restarting it without any luck. I have rebooted several times. Oh, also, it was working before I upgraded to this version.(just occurred to me that it is either a conflict with this version or a conflict with something in this version) Any questions asked will be answered happily.

Hardware:

processor-Intel® Core™ i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz × 4
graphics-Intel® Sandybridge Desktop x86/MMX/SSE2
os type-32bit

Well, that is good to hear. I did not know that and that is good news. Unfortunately, I have not seen any indication of it. Either hiding in my screen-saver list or anywhere. But I will keep that in mind.

Linux question not error related. Did not see anything close that would help.

I'm running Ubuntu(a flavor of debian, and I need instructions on how to install the SH file when I download the latest version of boinc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the quick response. I was somewhat aware of this. But, having spent most of my adult life in the computer field(in windows), that linux(debian) is just a little weird for me. I like weird, but, weird just the same. Do you know anything about the synaptic package manager???

That in itself is fine, but I do not have a screensaver for it and I do not see the boinc icon in the corner.

BOINC only has a screen saver for Windows and Mac OS X. Not for Linux. (Mind, some science applications do show the graphics through the "show Graphics" button in Boinc Manager!)
As for having an icon in the system tray, that's also only on Windows (as far as I know). Depending on how you set up BOINC, it's either running as a daemon or you start it by starting Boinc Manager. Pressing the X in Linux, closes Boinc Manager. This is by default.

Well, I am in the "middle of the road" feelings about the new BOINC image/icon. It does have a corporate look to it wiich I like, but, it is lacking something in the artistic area. I say, we should have a contest on that image/icon for BOINC and vote on it. A mass mailing should go out to all the members of BOINC telling of the contest and the voting.

As I do not. If you do, please tell me and why, perhaps you can change my mind.

Until that time: Brrrr, David really doesn't have artistic feelings.

I have boinc running on my win2k and on my debian(linux) computers. The win2k computer is running boinc just fine. But, my debian is running it in the backround. That in itself is fine, but I do not have a screensaver for it and I do not see the boinc icon in the corner.

Two is I am having issues with the fact that I can not install software from the web. The only software that I am able to install if from there install program (I am on another computer winXP, so I do not know the name of that program specifically). But, I am going to contact debian people about that issue. But, I thought I would mention it here two.

Any help would be appreciated.
