boinc(6.1.12) compiled from source

I started with a clean directory and attatched to my account manager (Bam!) , I see all my projects appear in the project tab, but in the mesages all the projects are saying
"Message from server: Incomplete request received".

BBC even adds the msg
"already attached to project named (possibly wrong URL)"

I have detached and re attached. I am getting no work from anything. what is happening?

still happening......

How much memory do you have in that system?

Waiting for memory means that BOINC has not found enough memory for this application to continue. Check your memory settings as well. There's this new setting to use x% of memory when the computer is in use and when idle. Make sure they are set up correctly.

512MB
I have -never- seen this in the years I have run boinc.
As I pointed out , it immediately grabs another wu for sah and -it- runs.

I have Einstein as well, it runs fine when it is its turn.
Just this wu from sah is "waiting for memory".

This wu is mostly computed so I don't want to abort it if I can avoid it.

I have searched the forums with different phrases and not found this issue. Forgive me if I have overlooked an existing thread.

I have a wu from sah that says "waiting for memory" , I have prefs both local and with BAM! set to not leave things in memory while suspended.
This wu is about to pass its date so I have suspended all other tasks to force boinc to compute this wu. when I do so sah grabs a new wu instead of continuing the old one.

What is causing the refusal of this wu to continue?

I have restarted the core client and gui. I have restarted the computer. No difference.

The task lists does not show suspened, they have "waiting to run", "ready to start", "ready to report", or "running", but not "suspended"
The wu's are grey all the time, unless they are not selected, then they are white background, but there is no difference when BOINC has stopped. I can select as usual, but none of the command buttons do anything.

Is the above when you are using the BOINC Manager gui or when using BOINCView?

BOINC Manager (e.g. run_manager)

I have 2 Ubuntu instances on two different drives within a single machine (one 64bit, one 32bit). Basically I've been running 32bit for a while but want to move towards 64 bit Ubuntu. As a part of testing it I'd like, when I boot to either system, to work on the same project files. Is this possible? If so how?

If your 64-bit Ubuntu is set up so that you can run 32-bit applications, then you should be able to run the same BOINC instance in either of your Ubuntus. Just run 32-bit BOINC under either bitness ...

Interesting thread. I have been wondering about sharing the files between Linux and XP on my dual boot Laptop. With both being 32-bit on a 32-bit cpu, is this cool, or do the to platforms make different format files?

It will be a dedicated vfat partition.

I run gentoo on most of my boxes and haven't experienced this problem. I self compile the boinc client (I don't use the gentoo ebuild or the Berkeley compiled executable).

It sounds like a config issue to me. I would install and setup BOINCView on your XP box as this could help you diagnose the problem. If it's a config issue (which I suspect - such as suspended because of time of day, user active, etc) the wu's on your linux box will show up grey and the reason will also show. If it's a hung science app the wu will show up yellow.[/quote]

I did self compile on gentoo

And this does not happen on the XP system

I do not have it suspend ever, time of day or otherwise. This system sits idle most of the time, and it is set to used less cpu, but not suspend when I use the system.

The task lists does not show suspened, they have "waiting to run", "ready to start", "ready to report", or "running", but not "suspended"
The wu's are grey all the time, unless they are not selected, then they are white background, but there is no difference when BOINC has stopped. I can select as usual, but none of the command buttons do anything.

thank you for the replies, I hope this info helps track this down

I resized my pic to 100x100 it is only 4k, but still it does not show it all
I tried making it 50x50 but still it is cropped

why?

well it apparently only gets cropped in the preferences page
I see it's all there on this post.....I guess the web cache may be fooling me

thanks for reading anyway lol

AthlonXP

HDD is far from full - 50GB free
Currently running Gentoo, but had this happen with earlier clients on Mandrake and Mandriva
I use BAM! to manage projects. I have 2 systems (the other one runs WinXP and does not have this problem).

I run boinc in X, I do not run in cli-only.

I find BOINC sitting inactive often. It will be full of completed units from various projects and the messages show no new entries for hours. I ask it to retry communications and nothing happens. I try to update a project and nothing happens. I try to sync with BAM and nothing happens.

I have to close the client and restart it to get it working. It closes without delay, it is not behaving like a hung app in this respect.

When the client comes up, it appears to run through the requests I made of it before closing it.

What is happening? Is this a Linux client peculiarity?
I searched and no Linux issues match this, not could I find it related to the client in general.
If I had not seen this occur in two completely separate Distros I would have thought it a config issue on my part. It has happened with every version of BOINC, not just 5.10.21

A button to Clear the messages would be nice.
I have enormous buffers that use up ram and I have to restart BOINC to clear them.
This has caused issues when running sensitive projects like Rosetta and would be nice to avoid.
