explanation of 'credit'
(Message 1479)
Posted 2 Dec 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: What are these credits I'm earning ? The BIONC Wiki has an exhaustive and interesting discussion of the BIONC credit system, and the reasons for its adoption. |

Error running BOINC Manager Fedora Core 4
(Message 827)
Posted 5 Nov 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: I get this error when trying to start Boinc Manager from Terminal window: Open a terminal window (if in your window manager), change to your BOINC directory and run 'ldd' on boincmgr. If everything is ok the output should look _something_ like this: :~$ cd BOINC :~/BOINC$ ldd boinc linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0xb7f1e000) libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7e01000) libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0xb7dde000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7dcc000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f3c000) :~/BOINC$ ldd boincmgr linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000) libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0xb7f41000) libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0xb7e76000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/tls/libdl.so.2 (0xb7e72000) libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0xb7d56000) libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0xb7d33000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7d21000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f69000) Fedora may keep stuff in different places from Slackware, but libXext should still be somewhere in your path. I suspect that your installation of XWindows _may_ be incomplete. Good Luck! PS: The file could even have the wrong permissions. Also is this the only program you have this error with? A lot of programs use that library these days. One of the Linux guru's could probably give you more complete advice than this. |

BOINC Manager 5.2.6
(Message 826)
Posted 5 Nov 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: The password can be found in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file in your BOINC directory. You can change it, but remember to restart BOINC afterwards. Someone more knowledgeable about 5.2x will be able to give futher info on this. |

Don't like the BIG-A** buttons in the BOINC Manager!!
(Message 825)
Posted 5 Nov 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: Why do they have to be so BIG? What about a toolbar that runs across the top -- like other Windows programs? That would free up more real estate for viewing columns without having to constantly scroll from side to side. If you prefer a toolbar, then why not try a very nice program called BOINCView. It does everything BOINCManager does but only works under Windo$e. You can get it from http://boincview.amanheis.de/ PS: It works under Wine as well. |

Wish: Pages for big threads
(Message 739)
Posted 29 Oct 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: Hi All, Thought I'd just keep this thread alive. Realise you have more urgent stuff to do, but I _really_ think dividing threads up into pages would neaten them up and speed up their loading. And speed can be an issue, even with cable. |

Wish: Pages for big threads
(Message 578)
Posted 27 Sep 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: I think this will be a very useful feature for us with dialup because a big threads are downloaded very slow. And of course for all others. I like this general idea, even though I am on cable - my service is a bit screwy atm. It will also make threads a lot neater IMHO :) PS : You of course know that turning off avatars and signatures; and setting images to display as links speeds up things quite a bit. |

Do I specify target with -redirectio command-line switch?
(Message 502)
Posted 23 Sep 2005 by 5 and a half of 13 Post: Sorry for the noobish question, but I couldnt find details on how to use this command-line switch. I'm using BOINC 4.43 (under Slackware Linux) which apparently allows it. I assume you do need to specify the target/s but thought I'd better check first as I'm a bit of a linux noob (esp. the command line). Thanks in advance. |
