Made some more tests with the Linux Compatibility on OpenBSD...

With OpenBSD 5.2 i386 and the usage of a more recent Linux package, I was able to crunch about 7 projects on OpenBSD (Albert, Asteroids, Einstein@home, MalariaControl, the Skynet POGS, World Community Grid, WUProp.)
The following projects does not worked: Constellation, Docking, Ibercivis, LHC@home, Ralph, Rosetta.
If you have some more projects which are working for you with the OpenBSD i386 Linux compat, please contact me.

Note: OpenBSD x64 does not have the Linux Compat!

The changes was updated within the new howtos, a actual BOINC client with the alternative platform string is also available on my homepage.

I have played around with the FreeBSD Linux Compat in FreeBSD 9.0 and 9.1. Since FreeBSD 9.0 it's possible to cruch Linux i686 binaries on FreeBSD x64 and i686. The most projects worked without any problem, not one project had any issues like aborts and pthread problems as on the older FreeBSD releases.

The howto is available at http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BSD_Linux-Compat_howto.html.
The required clients for FreeBSD i686 and x64 with the secondary platform string for Linux at http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BOINC%20Clients.html

Is this really the end for my project? I wouldn't want to give up because of a zip file.

No.

I have made an "unzip wrapper" for the BOINC wrapper for the Constellation project, which unpacks a 7z archive in the first step, and then starts the application according job.xml.
If you don't solve this issue, I can share the it with you. But, I have got to make some small modification, that it will generally work on other project.

What about BOINC for QNX under x86 ?

You are the first one which asked for it. Interesting. I will contact you via PM.

Excellent work Dotsch, especially the sustained effort over many years.

Thank you very much!

I would be interested in testing on a NAS server if anyone has developed any projects. I have a QNAP 210 with 256MB ram. boinc-client runs, and downloaded the World Community Grid project, but they do not support the ARM architecture.

Acutaly SETI will be the only candidate for running Linux ARM apps. Eventualy we can also get some more projects...
I have made a BOINC Client and SETI application for Linux on ARM, but had some strange problems and never released it to the public. Are you interested to test them?

If you are interested, we can test to build a package for OpenFiler which includes all the missing dependencies.
Feel free to contact me via PM.

As open filer it is a x86 Linux, there is not port required.
If there is a console is on the system, you can install the standard BOINC client for Linux on x86 or x86_64, depending on the CPU.
But, you take care about the cooling, if the system has no fans.

But BOINC need to make a move on this, not Sony, not Microsoft, not Nintendo. Sony did it for Folding@Home, they may just consider doing it for the projects involved with BOINC.

The problem is, that the BOINC developers requested help from Sony to port the BOINC science applications to the PS3, but never got it. If Sony had supported us, BOINC and several projects could ran at the PS3.

Today I have released Dotsch/UX 1.2.

Dotsch/UX is a Linux distribution for BOINC which easily installs and boot from a USB stick, hard disk and from diskless clients and also has some interfaces to setup the diskless server and the clients automatically.

For more informations have a look at http://www.dotsch.de/Dotsch_UX

New features in 1.2 :
• Build in NVIDIA CUDA support, a additional tool to enable and check the NVIDIA CUDA support.
• Persistent Live CD mode for testing the distribution as Live CD and store the data on a USB stick/disk
• Automated and semiautomatic backup of the BOINC client data and some other OS data
• Included Ganglia for performance monitoring of the Dotsch/UX Grids
• Pre Installed BOINC client 6.10.17
• Removed a lot of unneeded packages in the x86 and x64 distribution
• A lot of bug fixes and enhancements

Special thanks to all the peoples which supported and helped to make the new distribution possible !

You are right, for SETI (and a lot of other projects) a manual installation of the application is required.
A important step for the installation is to stop the BOINC client, install the project application, and start the BOINC client again with the option "--update_prefs <PROJECT_URL>" for example "boinc_client --update_prefs http://setiathome.berkeley.edu".
After the update a message, that the anonymous platform mechanism should occour and the project should download new WUs.

For SETI : The applications from Stefan and the Debian repositories are very outdated. I recommend to use them on my homepage.

Yoyo@home has also an SPE application for the PS3. But PS3Grid/GPUGrid has discontinued the PS3 SPE application.

The SIMAP application is a SPE application. The SETI application shifts out some tasks to the SPE.

Posted 8 Jan 2010 by Dotsch
Post:
Sorry, there is no BOINC client nor any science applications available for OpenVMS.
In the past, I had tried to find any peoples who can help to port to OpenVMS, a lot of them have never had really tried to port, and the persons which have started porting has lost interest.
If you are interested, I can help and assist you from the C, C++, BOINC and science application side. I have ported BOINC and several science applications to several Unixes. But I have not really any expirance with VMS.

I am working on a new Dotsch/UX 1.2 release in the moment in the alpha test.

Mayor changes are CUDA implementaion and CUDA tools, Live CD persistent home directory mode, a Grid Perfomance mointoring tool, integrated backup over network and to local devices, and a lot of enhancements and fixes.

I would very happy, if anybody would been interested to help beta test the new release. The beta test would start at the mid/end of the comming week.
Please contact me via PM, if you are interested in Beta test the new release.

A few months ago you asked if anybody would like to try.

I'm willing if the application is not going to screw up this computer.

It's a touchbook from alwayinnovating.com

armv7a with 256mb of ram and flash mass storage

Thank you very much for your interest. - Do you have Linux on the system ?
In the moment, I have a strange problem with the SETI application. I am not shure, if this problem will also happens on other ARM system.
If you are interested to test it, please drop me a PM, and I will mail you the binaries.

SIMAP, SETI and Yoyo have applications for Solaris/OpenSolaris on SPARC. Solaris x86 applications are only available at SIMAP and SETI.

@Jord : A Linux VM for x86 application does only work on x86. For the SPARC platform you have a extreme overhead to emulate x86 CPUs. A branded Linux Zone on SPARC, requires also Linux SPARC binaries (SETI+SIMAP applications are available for Linux on SPARC).
20) Message boards : Questions and problems : Mac OS9 - Is there a BOINC client for this? (Message 29066)

There is no MacOS 9 BOINC client nor any science application available.
MacOS 9 is officaly not supported, nor any volunteer has tried to build a MacOS 9 boinc_client or science application.
