Transfers Tab not working?
(Message 8241)
Posted 15 Feb 2007 by LuDean Post: Since I installed the beta, and later, version 5.8.11, I have not seen a single entry under the Transfers tab in BOINC Manager. I am certain that files are being transfered, because BOINC always has work to do listed under the Tasks tab, and I periodically see finished files which later dissapear. Has this function been disabled, or is this a bug, or is there something wrong with my installation? |

version 5.8 CPU limiter yo-yos
(Message 7054)
Posted 21 Dec 2006 by LuDean Post: I downloaded and installed the latest experimental version of BOINC (5.8). While looking at CPU usage in WinXP"s Task Manager, I observed the CPU usage bouncing up and down like a yo-yo. While set at 50%, it would bounce from 30 to 80% like clockwork. is this normal for this feature? Will later builds attempt to even this out some? |

CPU throttling in 5.4.11 ?
(Message 6172)
Posted 24 Oct 2006 by LuDean Post: Abandoned? You mean they have no intention of releasing it for general use? That would be dissapointing. From the download page, it sounded like it was simply a beta version still in testing. |

(Message 6162)
Posted 24 Oct 2006 by LuDean Post: By the way, it is possible to run BES from the Start folder with a specific program listed in the command line. I found out how to do it from the programmer's web site. I'm looking forward to the 5.6x as well, though, becaase I don't like having oodles of little appplets rnning all the time. |

Posted 6 Oct 2006 by LuDean Post: How does one set network connections to suspended? If I do so, will I have to change it back if I want it to connect when I do happen to be online? If I happen to ignore the reminders, what consequence will that have on the conpletion of the work units? |

Posted 6 Oct 2006 by LuDean Post: I have a dialup internet connection. Is there any way to reduce the frequency at which the BOINC client demands a network connection? The frequent appearance of these pop-up messages is wearing me thin. What effects would ignoring these messages have on the eventual completion of these work units? |

CPU throttling in 5.4.11 ?
(Message 5889)
Posted 2 Oct 2006 by LuDean Post: Boinc adopted the Linux numbering scheme In the version number ?.x.? if x is even, it is a public release, if x is odd, then it is a beta release. So you will only see even number releases on the download. Thanks's. It now makes sense to me. |

Posted 1 Oct 2006 by LuDean Post: Thanks to both for your responses. Nothing really wrong with the version I am running then. Hadn't heard that there was a version 4.6 coming up soon. Whatever happened to 4.5? I saw it listed on a version list on the web site, but have never seen it available for download. |

CPU throttling in 5.4.11 ?
(Message 5864)
Posted 30 Sep 2006 by LuDean Post: Is CPU usage throttling implemented yet in version 5.4.11 ? I downloaded this version earlier today and installed it. I have CPU usage limited to 50% in Boinc's Preferences, but it is still running at 100%. I have tried clicking the update button to force the software to get my most recent preferences, and have tried shutting down and restarting the program. |
