With the problems that Seti is having I will make the obvious prediction that Tuesday's outage will be of epic proportions.

. . And you have been proven correct, over 30 hours now and still down for the count ...

15 hours.
A fantastic outrage :-)

Actually, it's closer to 21 hours now, if you consider the fact that it basically quit handing out work ~6 hrs before maintenance began ~0500 PST.

. . Yes. that is a good point, my caches were all down even before the actual outage began. So now it is approaching 24 hours without being able to get any fresh WUs.

Down early today.
Well for the 4th I will be serving Beer and Wine at the Vacaville Street Fair.
Come on by.

. . It always bothers me when they catch me out with an early start. It usually means it will be a long outage and I will run out of work. :)

. . But I have my fingers crossed anyway ....

. . Another early start to the outage, this always portends a longer than average outage time :(

I see an Aricebo file has been put in the splitter. I hope I get some of those WUs. Its been a while since we've had Aricebo data.
02ap19aa - this month. I think they arrive automatically when recording has finished, whether we're ready for them or not.

. . Yes, they are automagically transmitted to Berkeley when they are ready (using a VPN internet connection I believe) and because they come in ones or twos they also get automatically prepared and mounted for splitting. So yep, here they come ready or not ...

. . The reason we seemed to have a lot of Arecibo work in recent times was all the old crumbs being swept up to clear the decks. Apparently they are all sorted now and we are back to whatever new work comes through the pipe.

. . But with another early start to the outage I'm betting it will be a longer than average outrage again.

We got an early in the morning (for California) outage. They've been having issues lately, so I'll guess we will get a longer one today.
Should we start the outage with coffee and donuts or mimosas ??

. . With the outage starting 3 hours early I think straight into the mimosas. Though I am a Margarita man myself ...

. . I hate it when the outage starts early and catches me off balance.

Nahh, the server is responding just fine, it's the database that is not.

BTW, it's been 2 hours since I mailed Eric/Jeff and no word back ...

. . If there is an issue in the path for their emails they may not have gotten it. Or they might just be out having fun. You remember what fun is right? I think I can ... almost.

I wonder if anybody has contacted Eric yet about the master database server taking a dump again?

. . Both of my Windows boxes have had unwelcome and unsolicited M$ restarts in the period just before/around the time of the server going AWOL. I wonder if there is a Windows box somewhere in the mix that is causing this?

. . So what was that I heard about a party?

I'm getting a 'Server can't open database' message on at least 1 of my machines in BOINC Manager...and I can't load any seti web pages

. . It's now 10pm UTC and 2 machines are off, have been OOW for hours, the two windows boxes are within an hour or so of joining them. Have only gotten 'cannot open database' for last 9 hours.

. . <Sigh>

......25% of Parkes observing time for five years commencing in 2016OCT.

2016??, we haven' seen any data at all from Parkes, so where is the data that should start to flow in 2016??

Edit: Almost 32 hours downtime now.

. .Actually we have. Eric (and others) posted about it and that they were making tweaks in the file format to keep things uniform. But it has yet to appear in main. Still waiting but not holding my breath (no really, it's just asthma).

Donate them to SETI so they can hire more staff?

I am suggesting that if today's outage continues much longer more hair will be burnt and the howling at the moon will resume.

. . Just think of the money you are saving on power bills (unless you have to now turn on a heater).

. . So those of us saving resources could invest them in a sweep, the closest to the time it comes back wins.

Yup, this is indeed a grand mal outrage.
The question now, is only if it's coming back S-H before, or after next Tuesday.
