@ Keith (and anyone else who offerred help)

. . Archae86 pointed me to the Einstein page with a table of currently supported apps. It turns out that while E@H allows volunteers to select CPU work for GR Pulsar Binary Search #1 and GW Multi #2 the 1st sub project does not support CPU work (currently) and the second is out of work for the present. I dropped them both and selected GR Pulsar #5 and I am now getting CPU work. A cunningly crafted trap for players ...

Any independent 'news' site that can't even spell "its" correctly (always adding the apostrophe, apparently no grammar checker) isn't worth my time, no matter their news.

. . <nerd_mode>ON

. . In English to distinguish between the possessive pronoun and the elided form of 'it is' the first is spelt (or spelled) without an apostrophe while the second uses an apostrophe.

. . <nerd_mode>OFF

. . So which case did they misspell? And how much mileage can we get out of this :) ??? {OK, I followed the previous link and found the offending source}

I notice only now that according to the home page, SETI is now in "hiberation" mode.

Since when is it in this novel state?

Sleepy

Yeah, "hiberation" is a new word I guess. A word that nobody has been able to explain the meaning of yet.

Geeze, if they can't even spell the word "hibernation" right on the main SETI page (or after months see that it's misspelled), how the he** could they think they can find ET?

LOL

.. Grumble on ... maybe someone in Berkeley will notice, maybe not ...

OK, the thot plickens ...

Anyone know how to give the E@H scheduler a kick in the butt? :(

Stephen

:(

You could set the pref to no GPU work and see if you get anything for the CPU.

. . I am wary of BOINC, is there a chance that would cause it to trash the hundreds of GPU tasks that are presently on the machines?

Well as usual, anytime you change a project's preferences to something other than originally set, or add a brand new project, you run afoul of BOINC's attempt to balance credit debt to other projects.

If you are sure you have allow cpu work set in your preferences . . . . and specifically for the location or venue you have assigned your host at Einstein, set sched_op_debug in logging Options and check the log after you make a scheduler request to Einstein to be sure you are actually asking for cpu work seconds.

OK, the thot plickens ...

Looking back the work request response has always been 'requesting work for CPU' (I hadn't noticed that) because it then says 'sending x new tasks' but they are GPU tasks NOT CPU tasks. For some reason it is sending GPU tasks in lieu of CPU tasks. To be clear, it is NOT requesting GPU work (I did turn on debug) but is requesting only CPU work because I have none, yet the scheduler is sending ONLY GPU work.

Anyone know how to give the E@H scheduler a kick in the butt? :(

@ Keith (or anyone who has mastered E@H)

. . I tried to change E@H to do CPU work as well as GPU. To get work on CPU I changed the resource share from 0 to 1 but now I am flooded with GPU tasks (hundreds of them) despite have work fetch set to 0.1 & 0 and trying 0.1 & 0.1. It just keeps replacing completed tasks so I am way overloaded ( between 2 and 3 days worth of work by my calculations). But still NO CPU tasks, it keeps saying I need to set preferences to allow them. I have set CPU tasks to yes and selected two CPU based projects but still nada???

. . Anyone know how to tame this beast ???

I still check in daily at the seti boards. I miss chatting with everyone. As much as I loved to complain about seti's scheduled and unscheduled outages (outrages!!), I still think it did many things right. I'm having a hard time finding the community on any other project, and my interest is not as intense. I got my silver badge on WCG, but I've had to pause all crunching due to too much heat. Hopefully tonight I can fire it back up again.

Hi Unixchick,

. . I am experiencing exactly the same issue, the community ethos is not as strong on the other projects. They just tick over rolling along. I wish Petri would make a Cuda10 app for E@H for us Nvidia users to get all excited about :)

. . I have made a Sapphire badge on WCG for what it is worth but it isn;t the same :(

3:20 PM here so time to switch for something stronger to continue the sacrifices. Few "mojitos" could help. It's very hot now!

Hola Juan,

. . Have a mojito for me too while you're are at it. I have not noticed the outages for weeks now, but with nothing to crunch I have long since suspended the project here so no work requests to get denied ...

. . I wonder how close they now are to wrapping up the schedulers etc in cotton wool ...

Good Morning Seti friends! Some how I missed last weeks outage, but I noticed today's. I'll join you in drinking and howling as I'm having a hard time measuring time. So now I know it is Tuesday.

Cheers!

. . I think this is a normal phenomenon in prison :)

. . When all these lock downs are over we can get back to a normal life except without S@H.

Project down for maintenance! Is it Tuesday already?

And I'm getting twitchy on 199,999,798 credits - don't leave us now!

. . I am sure you still have some unscored completed tasks that will carry you over ... :)

SETI@home is temporarily shut down for maintenance. Please try again later.
Methinks the old version of the status page has the explanation.

Hmmm, SETI is back up but the servers are having their usual post outage hissy fit. "cannot contact server", "HTTP not available", "Internal HTTP error". Over an hour later and I still haven't been able to report work on my main machines. The 2 smaller rigs have reported AOK but none are getting any new work because of the above ... :(

A fantastic outrage. Cold computers...

Can we get another 28 hours of the same please?

:-)

If we can hold out to 73 plus hours it most certainly will be a three dog night outrage.
