Let's not forget port 443 please, though few projects use it.

Do you know, which projects use that port?
As mentioned before, I can contact SETI, SETI-Beta, and the account manager BAM!, while ABC, LHC, QMC, Einstein, PrimeGrid, Predictor, Spinhenge are unreachable.

To extend your list:
4) "Update all projects"-button (There was one in ~5.2.7, but where is it now?)

On Windows, I don't think that can be done from a script... I plan on making a couple of little utilities for BOINC to do things like this.

But since it was built-in in a former version, I don't think it'd be a big problem to build it in again.

It certainly does save energy, as most people who have the choice don't get up at daybreak and do stay up late enough to need electric lighting. Summer Time reduces the number of hours in the evening when electric light is required.

But most people have no choice when to get up, so they need electric light in the morning, exspecially at the begin and the end of DST. Take me for an example: I have to get up at 6 AM CET. In march, when the sun rises earlier, our European DST starts, so I have to get up at 6 AM CEST = 5 AM CET. At that time it's still dark outside, so I need light.

Everyone, who likes the DST, can get up earlier on his/her own and go to bed an hour earlier, too, without a clock showing one hour later. But those, who dislike the DST, have not this choice in most cases.

btw: The 3/4 of the French population voted against the DST, but they're forced to accept it.

DST from March to November in the USA.
The Daylight Saving Time breaks Human Rights and does not save any energy.

So although Predictor was first, it's really lagging behind SETI :)

Two reasons for that:
1. Predictor came from almost nothing, while SETI came from SETI Classic and the BOINC Beta Test.
2. Predictor had no work for the last 8 months.

Suggest to get a second browser like Firefox or Opera and make either your preferred browser. If the behavior continues, blame BOINC, if not blame MS. I think someone found a solution though for the double feature and posted on this forum

What router problem (?).... helps if you provide link.

I won't install another browser, cuz IE has always done a good job for me. And the IE6-BOINC-problem is a problem of BOINC. In all official BOINC releases before 5.8.8 the links worked fine with IE.

And here's the link to the router problem.

Do you have a firewall on your own PC? Usually router firewalls are pretty basic and don't interfere with outgoing port 80 traffic.

No. Windows 2000 has no internal firewall and I'm not using any third party software firewall.
The crazy thing is, that I can't contact the project servers (except of SETI), even if I place the PC in a DMZ. So it might be a problem with the router's firmware (but it's the up-to-date version), causing the firewall to be enabled although PC is in DMZ, or it's not a firewall problem. But what could it be else? I can reach every corner of the internet with IE via the router, but to connect to the BOINC project servers I need to install a direct connection.

New release, old problems:
By clicking on a link two instances of IE 6 are started. At least I understand that now: When you've already started an instance, it prevents the link to open in the same. But when nothing's open, there two instances after clicking on the link.
And I've still the same problem with BOINC + router (see BOINC Core Client - Trouble with router), but I don't think this is a BOINC problem.

Tried clean uninstallation with BOINC folder deletion, but it doesn't work. Only improvement is that I can contact BAM via the BOINC Manager now.

Have you tried one of the schedulers in a web browser? Do you get an error message there too?

Incomplete request received. But that's OK...

Does it create sched_reply*.xml files on each contact and - if so - what are their contents?
If they look as expected, it can be a timing problem, I had that when a project server was overloaded.

The sched_reply*.xml files are created, but they're empty. I can contact all projects when I connect without the router and there's no message that servers are overloaded.

Here another extract from my stdoutdae.txt where you can see PrimeGrid and LHC with different errors, BAM! with error and a successful SETI contact.

I'm using a Netgear WNR834B router since yesterday.
It has an internal firewall and now I can't communicate with following projects:
Einstein@home
lhcathome
QMC@Home
PrimeGrid
Only SETI@home works fine. I can upload work to all project servers but scheduler requests always fail:
25.02.2007 00:00:02|Einstein@Home|Scheduler request failed: failed sending data to the peer

Any solution? I tried to deactivate the firewall, but it still did not work.
I think I have to allow access over port 80 for non-http, but it simply doesn't work with that stupid router...

Suggestion also for this forum: a search tool (cuz I'm wondering if my suggestions have already been suggested)

Google may also help ;) But a link to the internal search tool would be great.

To extend your list:
4) "Update all projects"-button (There was one in ~5.2.7, but where is it now?)

5) Better simple view: You can't suspend network activities and there's no list of tasks to be done in the simple GUI.

Does anyone have the same problems?

I see 5.8.8 as a step back, because in 5.8.6, a test version, you could sort e.g. by RAC.
That's like 5.2.7(?) with the very useful "Update all projects"-button, which dissappeared in official release.
