It's not based on the system's time format settings?
2) Message boards : BOINC client : Change of deadline.

Not sure i'd consider this an issue.

If the deadline has been extended, but not updated on the system, then the only way it would be a problem (as such), is for those that micromanage their systems; they see the deadline has been reached or passed, and manually delete the Task.
For everyone else- it's not an issue. If the deadline's been extended but not updated on the system, then it will still get done according to the existing deadline, returned, Validated & Credit awarded. It may or may not get bumped up to a being processed as a High priority Task if it starts later/runs much longer than the BOINC Manager expected. But it will still get done & returned in time for Credit.

And if the Project reduces the deadline for Tasks already issued?
The Tasks will get re-issued if the earlier longer deadline issued ones haven't been returned by the new shorter deadline date. If those re-issued Tasks get returned & Validated before the initially issued longer deadline Tasks, then those earlier issued longer deadline Tasks will be cancelled by the server if they haven't already been started. If they have already been started, then they should continue to completion & if Validated upon return, Credit still awarded.

I can actually see updating deadlines for already issued Tasks causing all sort of problems.

People get mighty worked up when they have large caches, lots of projects, and Tasks with all sorts of different deadlines and all sorts of ideas about what their Resource Share settings actually are (i'm forever telling people that they're a ratio, not a percentage. And that what is run and when, is based on work actually done, not the amount of time spent processing / the amount of Credit for that Project).
Changing the deadlines on already issued Tasks is going to cause the Manager to stop and start multiple other Tasks across multiple projects- causing meltdowns from those that have spent months getting BOINC to process a certain number of Tasks for certain projects at any given time.

Not changing the deadline for already issued Tasks doesn't cause any issues of significance IMHO. But changing them will cause issues, that will significant those that would consider it to be an issue IMHO.

We went from 27C two days ago to 13C now. From too much warmth to "nice".
???
27°c is the temperature i have my aircon set at to be comfortable.

24°c is cold. 20°c and less is freezing cold (seriously- jacket & trousers or i'd be shivering like someone with dengue fever. Although on my motorbike at night anything less than 24°c is damn cold. 24°c is OK in full Sun, still cold at speed, but not too bad).

Forecasts for this week; min 23° to 25° (about 2-4° above average), max 33° to 35° (2-3° above average).

I have temporarily disabled viewing user's task results to improve the responsiveness of main.cpdn.org whilst we are still being bombarded by webcrawler requests.
The plan is to add in a login check in order to see any task results which will help but we need bit of time to change the website code.
There's a project that already has this- when looking at people's systems, if you try to check on a particular result, it requires you to log in to do so.

This AI/ML/LLM scraping is getting beyond ridiculous
Recently read a story about the impact of it on the likes of Wikipedia- it's bringing them to their knees as well with the increased load on their servers.

So I totally thought boinc.exe was the wrapper executable that runs all the science applications underneath it. I haven't tried with boinctray.exe or boincmgr.exe but I think those are just for the Graphical User Interface of BOINC Manager and have nothing to do with running the actual science apps, no?
None of them have anything to do with running the science applications as such.
The BOINC Manager is just that- a manager. It determines what project to run, and which Task to process & when.
It's up to each application to actually process the work. A project might have a single application, it might have a dozen (or more).

Personally, just whitelisting C:\ProgramData\BOINC is a whole lot easier.

Duckduckgo searching for "Boinc config" produces:

"We would like to show you a description here but the site won't allow us."

Why?
You need to ask DuckDuckGo that.

Doing a search on DuckDuckGo using
Boinc config
without the quotation marks gives lots of results.

It's nothing to do with BOINC.

You need to do a full system scan on all your systems for malware/hijackers.
I keep getting warnings. "IP address blocked."

Had no issues myself when installing BOINC on a new WIn11 laptop.
Downloaded current version of BOINC from here (8.0.2). Ran the installer with default settings. Done.
You haven't installed any 3rd party AV/anti-Malware software have you?

There is this for WIn10 Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.
Some posts say they used it with success on Win11, others say it fixed the problem programme, but corrupted others that required a repair installation of WIn11.

I'd suggest re-installing BOINC, then use Add/remove programmes to remove it. Then try re-installing it again, this time maybe try using Admin privileges? (right click on installer, Run as admin).

(I was a wizard at DOS through Windows 3.11 and Novell though. For all the good that does me today.)
Lantastic was bad enough- but Netware? *shudders at the memory*

And even if I upgrade the driver one day, there will not be a problem as long as the driver shown in the coproc-info.xml works with the given task. Plus, I now know anyway how to solve the problem, should one ever come up :-)
As long as you remember then what you did this time around...

Failed to delete old coproc-info.xml. error code - 110.
That is what happens if you make the file read only, as per my question earlier in the thread.

Unbelievable, how simply the problem finally got solved :-)
Not so much solved, as worked around.

Unless you actually fix what is going on- ie why isn't the file being deleted, so the new one can be written, then the next time you upgrade your video driver the same issue will re-occur. BOINC will not recognise the new video driver (well it will find it, but unless it can save those changes, it can't recognise it).

You haven't previously set any BOINC configuration files to read only to stop them from changing? (something i had to do some time back due to issues with the video driver (an Intel OpenCL entry in the registry broke the support for NVidia OpenCL & CUDA. No OpenCL, but 2 CUDA devices for just one video card...)).

Message 115858

I have changed Boinc from the Flatpak (was uninstalled) to a normal installation and am now wondering why so few points are displayed under "Statistics".
If the new installation was in a different directory to the previous installation, then the previous locally stored Statistics files won't be in the new installation, so no previous Stats in the BOINC Manager Statistics tab.

I switched from web to local preferences and it seems to have solved the issue.
Try switching back just to see what happens then.
I can't think of anything web based that would result in the Manager benchmarking.

Have you recently made any changes to any configuration files? Or to the BOINC startup entry in Windows Startup section or BOINC manger's Event Viewer logging settings?

Edit-
No issues with the Date and/or Time on your system?

It's nothing to do with speed, it's all about time.
What do you mean "it's all about time"? Time for programmers? Yes that's what I said - too much work.
No, it's about processing time, not processing speed.
Time is indirectly proportional to speed. And what's the CPU to do with it? I was talking about a difficult programming exercise to implement it.
And i keep telling you, it's already been implemented.
And are you deliberately being obtuse? As i was responding to a comment you made relating to processing work, nothing to do with programming time or effort.
But you don't seem to pay the slightest bit of attention, and you even ignore my request for the information relating to how it's setup for Einstein.

And for CPU applications that support multithreading, the change takes effect as soon as you update the settings.
Yes, as I said Boinc tasks can't do this. You have to wait for the next task if you change the command in app_config.
No you don't.
That's what Options, Read config files if for- to make changes take effect immediately.
The task (MW Nbody certainly) does not take it into account mid-run.
Why things are different for you i have no idea.
Every project i've done, you read the config file & the change takes effect immediately. Going back to default, you have to exit BOINC & restart.

Which is what BOINC does, as per the project's settings, and your own.
But my point is with folding I don't have to constantly fine-tune things if a different task is running. I just say "use a total of 24 cores and 1 gpu".
And that is the case with BOINC as well. You configure it to work the way you want, and then it will do so.
No I cannot. When a different GPU task appears, I have to re-tune it for that too.
Only if it is a new application.
Just starting another Task makes no difference.

You complain about an issue that doesn't exist- as i keep pointing out it has already been accounted for by the project's defaults for that application. If it doesn't work for you, you can change it, and it will stay that way for any work done by that application. If a new application comes along, and the defaults don't work for you, you can change them too.

But it appears you aren't actually interested in why things are the way they are and what can be done about it, you just want to complain that it isn't to your liking.
I've got better things to do with my time than keep repeating myself to someone that isn't paying attention or just doesn't like the answers they've getting so I give up.

You can set the number of cores/threads to be used to match what you actually have available, you can reserve as many CPU threads as needed to support your GPU processing.
The defaults work well for the vast majority of usage cases, but it does allow you to customise things to suit your own circumstances. Your desire for BOINC to be able to intuitively know what it is you want it to do just isn't realistic.
What I want to do is what everyone wants to do, use all resources fully.
Then set it up to do that.
It's your choice.
