Feature request: suspend GPU tasks when fullscreen app is running (and stop enabling the screen saver by default)

Posted 23 Jul 2018 by Nethlek Post: 1. i know how to disable the screensaver, my point is that in 2018 it shouldnt be enabled by default anymore. making this opt-in instead of opt-out would be more user friendly. 2. yes i can list every single one of my 100+ games installed but thats quite a hassle and it wont help with running browser videos on fullscreen. if there was simply a checkbox to disable the gpu on fullscreen, that would be a lot more user friendly imo. |

Posted 22 Jul 2018 by Nethlek Post: the full screen thing was already brought up once 5 years ago in this thread: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=8450 the screen saver argument doesnt really hold up, basically no one is using them anymore. personally, i havent heard or thought about screen savers in 10+ years, until boinc forced one on me earlier this year. i dont think it should be enabled by default anymore and i'd really like it if i didnt have to manually suspend the gpu every time i want to play a game or watch a video (choppy playback with some projects). i dont want to suspend the gpu when im using my computer, only when im doing either of those 2 things, but if i suspend it manually, half the time i forget to turn it back on again. can the decision to not include this feature, as well as enabling the screen saver by default be reconsidered please? |
