Posted 17 Jul 2007 by Dan Post: Thanks for the info...I guess I can assume the 5.10.x versions for Windows are stable enough as long as Windows Defender is NOT used. Dan Can we still use 5.10.7 for Windows which was released around 6-25-07 if we are not using Windows Defender but are using WinXP?? Another words, are their any issues other than listed in using this release?? |

Posted 19 Jun 2006 by Dan Post: Regarding the Boinc service, should the Boinc properties Log On as section be set to a specific local account or can/should it be set to the 'Local System account' and 'Allow service to interact with desktop'?? Thanks for all your assistance, Dan |

BOINC 5.4.9 is released

Posted 18 Jun 2006 by Dan Post: I believe the password can be found in the BOINC folder in gui_rpc_auth. I don't know if that is the problem or not. Did you "Add or Remove Programs" first from the control panel the 5.2.13 before installing 5.4.9? Have you set up firewall permissions if applicable for 5.4? Regarding the Boinc service, should the Boinc properties Log On as section be set to a specific local account or can/should it be set to the 'Local System account' and 'Allow service to interact with desktop'?? I just made this change and reselected 'Advanced, Select Computer' (in Boinc Manager) and the CPU started incrementing and Task Manager started displaying my task file again. Sincerely, Dan |

[/quote] Thanks for the response...I have just pasted the password from this file back into the password prompt for localhost and still no changes. The Task Manager still says System Idle Process - 99%, yet Bonic Manager says my project status is Running (the cpu time is not changing). When I upgraded to 5.4.9, I installed it over 5.2.13 Regarding firewall permissions, they have not changed - if 5.4.9 requires something special, I was unaware of it. Sincerely, Dan |

Posted 18 Jun 2006 by Dan Post: I also loaded 5.4.9 (over 5.2.13) and have had problems ever since. My Task Manager says "System Idle Process 99%, yet Boinc Manager as localhost says the project is running. If I restart my WinXP system, the Task Manager says it is running again but the system will only run for a little while. Later the process stops and when stopping and restarting the service, Boinc Manager says I have not entered the correct password. I then select Advanced, Select Computer and enter localhost (a series of dots appear in the password area) and then Boinc seems to start, but again the Task Manager does not show it as running. Anyone know what the 'localhost' password would be?? (assuming that is the problem). Since nothing seems to be working I may need to go back to 5.2.13 since 5.4.9 seems to have problems.
