21) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Unable to Connect to LocalHost (Message 15034)

I had the same issue on my VISTA32 PC just after MS OneCare updated to 2.0. The update messed with my network settings too. My 2 XP units did not have BOINC affected, just networking after the MS OneCare update.

I stopped the BOINC service and when started it was working OK. After a while it was frozen again. I then found that in the slots directory I had a few minirosetta WU's and that when I stopped and started the BOINC service that I had 2-4 finished WU's. I deleted the slots with rosetta WU's and the manager started working fine. I blocked the Rosetta and RALPH from getting new work.
David Anderson at Berkley discovered what was causing the issue and has produced a fix.

During my problems I tried upgrading to 5.10.38 and lost the ability to sort projects and tasks. I back graded to 5.10.30 and still cannot sort my work.

A bit MIFFED at that as I may have 10-40 WU's in queue and I am active on 40+ projects on this VISTA box.

BOINC can not be sold to anyone due to its licence I think?

Also its next to impossible/too much work to convert a 360 to a Linux operating system to enable this to happen.

So short answer is no as its not worth the effort

Here is an article that might answer why.

25) Message boards : BOINC Manager : S L O W on Ubuntu Linux... (Message 4953)

The linux and windows clients benchmark differently. The same machine will benchmark higher under windows and lower under linux.

WEll then mabey I shouldn't do a Linux installation. I have an ubuntu linix box I just finished building on the 5th. I downloaded the Linux Client for BOINC and unlike windows, it doesn't just run and install. It says I need to install it using a terminal session.
I am NEW to Linux and i can find a terminal session and I can see the folder that contains that download i need to use. NOW I need instructions on how to get to the folder and how to install the software. I type 'ls' and i see the folders. I thought to get to a folder I would use 'CD' and type the name of the folder 'boinc'. It don't work! Next?????

Here is the link for Linux installation.

If linux is to succeed it will have to be as EASY as windows to use. I am willing to learn if someone will help me thru the steps.

I am doing beta testing with windows vista, and am running boinc under it. I have not seen any problems (yet) and was wondering if anyone else was doingthe same thing.

I have been on version 5384 for 2 weeks now. BOINC manager (5.4.9) loaded with out an issue in the XP upgrade process that i did. I have had 2 updates from Microsoft this week 6-12>16-06 that required a reboot. after the reboot I saw that several of my projects did not reappear in the tasks List. They are still listed in my projects list (21 projects) but no longer show any work to be done. Most prominent is the CPDN, BBC and Sesonal projects. These have such long run times that they have not finished on this PC and were only about 10% done at the time of the first reboot.
