1) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Leave applications in memory while suspended preference does not work (Message 6523)
Posted 18 Nov 2006 by Ed Johnson
Post:
Hi,

I run only Rosetta@home.
I have set:
Leave applications in memory while suspended = NO on my web account with Rosetta. I have updated my clients. I use only the default preferences. I have not setup home, school or work preferences.

All of my preference changes worked except for my leaving application in memory to no. Rosetta eats up over 100MB of memory, and I cannot afford to leave it in memory when I am doing work.

C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\global_prefs.xml does NOT have an entry for leaving application in memory. Even though it updated all my other changes correctly.

Is this a bug with Boinc? Can I correct the global_prefs.xml by hand until this bug is fixed?

Thanks,

Ed J.

Perfect!
Thank you.

I highly suggest that this link be added to the official Boinc Windows Installer pages. I wish I had it months ago.

Thanks. I've never done a transform before. Any chance someone could post an example of how to use MS Orca to add an account_*.xml file to the deployment?

Thanks,

When using Active Directory Deployment of Boinc,
is there a way for me to select the project(s) that the Boinc installation will run?

As far as I can tell, I still have to go to each machine and manually set a project. That defeats much of the purpose of AD deployment.

Thanks,

Ed
5) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Boinc simap is incorrectly running on batteries with 5.4.9 (Message 4637)

So, I plugged one laptop back in.
Boinc is not detecting the move back to being plugged in.
I click the Update button for the project and it starts.

As I go back and forth with the power supply, Boinc only behaves correctly part of the time.

Oh well, as long as it doesn't run projects on batteries, it's not so bad.

Did you ever Update after you changed your settings?

And which BOINC version is this for? If lower than 5.4.9, try to upgrade to 5.4.9, edit your preferences on one of the projects again, save the changes even if there are none with the button at the bottom of the site and then Update that project through Boinc Manager, Projects tab, highlight the project you edited the preferences of and click Update.

Hi,

This started happening after I upgraded 3 laptops to 5.4.9.
I went to the project page, saved the changed like you said, and then told each Boinc client to Update the project.

That worked. Thank you for the workaround.

Definitely a bug they need to fix, as one of my laptops went dead running full speed on a project while using batteries.

I have 2 different accounts set to 'Not run on batteries'.

Boinc continues to run the simap on 3 different computers and two accounts.

This is a serious bug for laptop users!

Update:
This applies to all projects. Definitely a problem with the new Boinc release.
