Might be me, but isn't that normal?

A screen saver will hide everything currently on the screen, including a stationary mouse cursor, so nothing burns in in the screen.

My best guess is that his mouse stays disappeared when the screensaver goes away. If you are lucky you can guess where the mouse is pointing by the action on hot spots. I had seen that problem myself on rare occasions with other unrelated software that I don't use anymore.

I would strongly suggest to use minutes. Some Boinc projects (such as climate prediction) can take months to complete so would starve other projects for weeks if it went to unsupendable at 95%.

Right ... I figured I would be too long-winded if I suggested the preference should satisfy both conditions at the same time. That way relatively short tasks don't dominate when they hit 15 minutes left, and long ones like you point out won't dominate when they hit 95%. It would be about the same either way for a 5 hour task.

Thanks for the feedback.

It just occurred to me that most, if not all, of the projects qualify for tax-deductible contributions.

I am donating over 99% percent of five computers to four BOINC projects. How/where would I calculate a value to put on my 1040 Schedule A next year?

If BOINC were to provide (and advertise) a printable screen, web URL, etc. that calculates some annual value recognized by the IRS, based on each user's actual credits, it could substantially boost participation including corporate networks.

is there a way for me to remotely install to other pcs on my network?

You can if you have Remote Desktop Connection working. See MCSA/MCSE Exam 70-290 Chapter 2, lesson 3.

Hmmmm .... a lot of people looked at my question but nobody answered me. Oh well ...

I eventually got bored with the graphics and decided I don't need them. So I converted all computers to use service mode. Problem solved.

This has the additional benefit that I don't care if Windows Update boots my machines at 3:00 AM. All compurers start computing again after reboot with nobody logged on.

When I open the BOINC Manager, I sometimes see a task that was preempted shortly before it would have completed. I have one SETI task sitting at 99.251% with other projects going ahead.

For those of us that like to earn credits briskly, how about considering the following?

1) Modify the way Suspend-Resume works so that Resume actually makes that task the running task.

2) Add a "Run to Completion" preference to specify that any task that passes XX% (or has less than XX minutes left) will run to completion without being preempted. I would use 95% (or 15 minutes).

It also provides cheap insurance to protect work almost done against an unforeseen network or computer outage.

I need help with, or found a bug in, how BOINC works with roaming profiles.

I have a home domain, running W2K3 server on one computer, and four other computers running W2K Pro in various rooms.

Over the past few days I installed BOINC on my office server under the domain admin account, my office desktop under my personal account, and my wife's kitchen desktop under her personal account.

Since all our usual accounts were up and running, I then installed on my wife's travel laptop under the local admin account as a service. So far so good.

The problem came up when I went to my travel laptop. I decided to logon here under my personal account even though I was already logged on on my office desktop.

To my surprise, BOINC showed up in the tray even though I had never installed it on the laptop. When I opened the manager on both computers, it showed an exact one-for-one match with the tasks, with a close match on seconds each had progressed so far. But the laptop version was not running.

In a bit of panic, I logged off the laptop, and installed BOINC as a service under the laptop local admin account.

My concern is that BOINC will get corrupted if I log into the laptop again under my personal account. I can see my roaming profile on the laptop conflicting with the service, and/or conflicting with either open or closed logins on any other computer.

I know there are users out there running BOINC on many computers. Please advise. How are you dealing with this?

V/R,
Walt
