Another month went by without news on this...

6.6.20 still behaves that bad, I had to see. :(

Hi Gundolf,

What about giving the scheduler a "forecast"?

Perhaps you can "experiment" a little with those values ;-)

Oh, I did a LOT of experiments already...

Not sure if I tested "allow network...", will check again. But even if I set it to "3 days" the planned connection will be on a weekend in some time. May be 7 days would help on this, but this will make a HUGE cache, don't know if this is good...? Unfortunately the day-of-week-override is a local setting, at least I can't find it in BAM.

The PCs I run @work are NEVER on at weekend, but since the scheduler takes an average, I often see WUs over deadline on monday (even after setting a low buffer)...
It would be easier for me, if I could set "working hours" for each day similar to the local settings dialog.
I do NOT want to become BOINC inactive out of this hours, this should be considered "extra time" which the scheduler does not take into account when calculating the remaining time to the deadline.

hm, may be phrased too complicated?
Here's an example:
I set working hours to 07:30 to 16:30 for MO to FR, none on SA/SU.
Let's say a WU has a deadline of tomorrow 17:00 and needs 9 more hours, we need to go into panic mode - we have only 9 hrs tomorrow, even less if the PC is not "always on". The WU must be finished before 16:30 or it will be too late. May be we're lucky and the person on that PC arrives at 7:00 already, but the scheduler should not rely on this, even if it happens every day...

My last 2 installations showed up strange, too.
I explicitly chose "protected app", but after the reboot there was no service. I had to uninstall, reboot, and install a second time before it worked as expected.

System: W2K SP4 in a AD-Domain.
Also, as posted in another thread, it's very annoying that BoincMgr is started via registry instead of All-Users-Autostart, so I need to patch this manually each time (beause the checkbox in options only works for the current user, so I get dumb questions every day) instead of simply removing this icon. Even better would be to make this behaviour optional!

EDIT: If you have a Windows Active Directory network with at least Windows Server 2003 R2, you can use Group Policy to remove that registry entry automatically. Shouldn't have to resort to that, but at least it will minimize the headache.

Since I have the same problem, any hint how to achieve this with W2K-Server (<2003)?

Thanks Jord,

I haven't seen that thread/ticket. Let's hope there'll be a good solution before CUDA becomes standard in BOINC...

Related to the new CUDA-Features it seems to be necessary to be able to turn this on when idle and vice versa.
On my PC I've setup BOINC to "always on", but since my graphics card (GeForce 8600GT) is hardly suitable, I cannot use the computer when GPUGRID-tasks are run!
When I setup "run on idle" I would waste 90% of the computing capacity...

(in case this should be handled as a new issue, may be someone can put it into TRAC?)
28) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Installation 5.10.x and roaming profile (Message 11134)

Hi,

at work we're using a W2K-domain with roaming profiles.

Now I tried to install 5.10.x on a new PC, but the process was aborted, because the installer wants to remove an older version first!

Of course there isn't any, that information obviously came from the roaming profile of my account.

Unfortunately there no "IGNORE"-action, so the installation is aborted, and I have to manually search the registy for that {12345-xxxx}-key mentioned by the installer and delete it!

I would be very pleased if this could be fixed.

Another issue, by the way:
Did I mention, that it's STILL impossible to install as a SYSTEM-service? I believe so...
Anyway, whatever the reason may be - if I do an UPGRADE, why can't the installer leave my settings alone??? Every time not only I have to reset the service to SYSTEM (after unnecessarily having to grant service-access to an account which doesn't need to have it), but also patch the registry because I prefer to have "allow-gui-rpc". This is quite annoying. >:(

@pepo: That's where I got the idea. ;)
But WCG is not a native BOINC-app, so I thought it could be a good idea.

@nicolas: Cool, haven't seen this before. So basically it's already there. Too bad it's not in use, apparently...

Hello,

that "allow installation as a SYSTEM service" has been mentioned quite often, I think. ;)

But regarding some actual projects, I'd like to have "testing" and "production" projects together, but selectable.

At this point, there's e.g. "SETI" and "SETI-BETA" as two separate projects.

My proposal would be that workunits/client software could be flagged as "alpha state", "beta state", "stable".

In my preferences I could then select if I wish to participate in alphas an/or betas - globally and on a per-host-basis as an override.

This way I can connect to any project I'm interested in and eventually help in development automatically. When I decide not to do so, I simply get no work while there's only testing (like QMC, Predictor or Proteins at this time). The project managers on the other hand don't need to create separate project only for testing purposes.

same here on Ubuntu "Dapper" - make complains about missing "language.C"...?

Too bad it's still impossible to install as a SYSTEM-Service... :(

Is Windows NT no longer (correctly) supported?
- On my W2K and XP machines, 5.4.9 installs just fine.
- WinNT complains about a missing "SENSAPI.DLL"?! Don't know what this is, but it prevents BoincMGR from starting. The service is running ok, but shows this error on every start... I found this filed as a bug in Alpha-Test, so it SHOULD be corrected before it becomes a "recommended" version, shouldn't it?
- for Linux I haven't found the "console-only" version (I am using Ubuntu "Dapper" / server-version w/o GUI). I tried to checkout "stable" from CVS, but compilation reports version 5.2.15, which isn't even listed as "recommended" or "older" - why this?
