BOINC 5.4.9 is released

Posted 17 May 2006 by Mike Wilmes Post: [Wish] Don't know if this is the best place for this post, but... The manager starts BOINC with the default project data location. Could this (or the BOINC client itself) incorporate a permanent option to choose where the project data will be stored at? I am aware of the -dir option, but so far that doesn't work with what I'm trying to do... I am trying to install BOINC onto my school's computer lab to do something productive and give people something nicer than the windows logo to look at :) Unfortunately, I have three requirements: 1. The boinc project data must run off a windows network share. 2. The screensaver must show the project interface, not the default "% done" message. 3. The boinc process must not run in its own window. Running via the manager is acceptable. I tried running BOINC as a serice; the screensaver doesn't "work" if the service uses a network account. The screensaver does work but the network share is not available as a mapped drive when running the service using the local service account. Can get the screensaver to work nicely with the network share using a login script or shortcut, but the BOINC procees appears as a user program. I think most users would close this window, defeating the purpose. Any thoughts? Cheers, Mike |
