1) Message boards : Questions and problems : BOINC 7.16.11 for MacOS 10.7 and 10.8; BOINC 7.16.13 for MacOS 10.9 and above
Message 102951 Posted 10 Feb 2021 by ![]() |
I upgraded to 7.16.14 I'm still having problems. Boinc just exits. I have to manually restart it a couple times a day... thinking of writing a script to check if it is running and if not restart, but it just seems silly that it keeps exiting. My WUs are validating fine when they are finally finished. There is just lost processing time as I have to keep restarting it. Any suggestions? log extensions to try? anything to try? this is so annoying. |

Is it just me, or is the message board wonky?? The post order seems off. |

I still check in daily at the seti boards. I miss chatting with everyone. As much as I loved to complain about seti's scheduled and unscheduled outages (outrages!!), I still think it did many things right. I'm having a hard time finding the community on any other project, and my interest is not as intense. I got my silver badge on WCG, but I've had to pause all crunching due to too much heat. Hopefully tonight I can fire it back up again. |

I've lost track of what day of the week it is. The seti maintenance shutdown shook me. It is Tuesday! I'm here and I'm sorry to say that my alcohol stash is rather small at the moment, so I'll do more howling than drinking. edit: belated congrats to Richard! |

One of the good things when you use the spoofed client is you could wait until the servers are back and stable. By doing that we actually help the rest of the users by not asking work while all are asking at the same time. Now is close to 6 PM here, my host will only start to ask for new work after 11 PM. So you guy's could fill your caches first. I could take some more rounds on the pub without any problem. When i return, if by 11 PM the system still not stable (14 hours after it stop to ask new work at 9 AM or about 15 hours of outage) i will set it to NNT and wait until tomorrow morning. I do this too. (without having to spoof, since I have a slow machine), by taking 2 days worth on Monday night, and that has worked every time... so far. This time my grab has gotten WUs that are taking on average an hour less time than the server estimated. No biggie, just me whining. I could grab 2.5 or 3 days next week. I do hope that my not hitting the server during the recovery period is more helpful, even though I'm increasing the db size (which is only an issue recently). |

I've started the chorus of kitties to howling in hopes that it will help. Seti has also misjudged how long my cache of WUs would/will take. I usually am able to weather these longer outages and even delay reporting and asking for more to allow others to "feed" first, but this time I might have to jump in there and fight with you all for a few when it comes back up. |

is seti having issues?? Thanks for the book recommendation about teaching cats. I thought the best thing to teach my group was to howl at the moon, but now I see I have to teach them gun safety too. looks like the server is ok... just a hiccup |

I hope the Bloom County's Steve's hair burning sacrifice helps :-) How long as it been so far? 7 hours?? The announcement on the web page no longer gives an estimated length for the outage. The moon should be up soon, so I can get the kitties to howl then to help. |

Big earthquake near Jamaica. 7.7 Not sure if they felt it in Puerto Rico. First I hope all are safe and well, but I also hope all is good for our Aricebo .Caribbean earthquake of 7.7 triggers tsunami warnings suggests it's far enough away (other side of the Dominican Republic) not to be too damaging and the Tsunami shouldn't reach that high. Not good for the people and infrastructure of Puerto Rico, though - bang goes the power supply again, I expect. Thanks for posting this. I didn't think to check the Aricebo schedule. great idea! |

I was hoping all our New Year's libations would have been sufficient for a while, but it seems not. It is too early here, so no moon to howl at yet, and I'm still drinking coffee. I'll have to see what I have in the house to put into my coffee :-) I think it has been out of communication for about 5 hours at this point. |

it is hour three. I've got some pretty cookies to add to the festivities. I burned one batch in offering though. |
