Thank you, trouble is this machine is not i686 compatible , having neither PAE or CMOV instructions. I think I will experiment with mprime which was fairly easy to install and see how its copes with that for a few days. Thanks for the pointers to the source

Thank you, yes that's a good point about projects I am running BOINC successfully on a fairly modest 2008 Dell Dimension 2150, doing Gamma Ray Pulsar detection. Takes around 2 days per unit.

However this AMD K6 III clocked at 450Mhz is even older.

Over on the reddit NetBSD thread mprime was suggested, and I'm running that now, so maybe the answer is to pick my distributed computing programmes to fit my menagerie of computers

Hi, another old machine has been dusted off and running with netBSD 9.3 i386, due to age (AMD K6 - no pae or cmov) .

is there a boinc client binary anywhere for such a relic ?
in this forum I found various links but all sadly broken
4) Message boards : Questions and problems : when adding a second machine/client , can I just copy the project config files from the first client (Message 113262)

Hi, I have one machine running BOINC participating in several projects. Works fine. Simple Q but I couldn't exactly find the answer.

If I install Boinc on a second physical machine, is there a set of files I can simply copy across so it also works on the same projects. I'm running the machines headless from CLI, so simply copying a few xml files would be great, if that's all that's needed

thanks

Thank you Dave. I noticed when I ran
$ boinccmd --get_notices

This message amongst the others. The only way I would receive this message is, presumably by running the boinc client and connecting to their project ?

2: (25-Nov-2023 08:10:05) It looks like you haven't installed the World Community Grid software yet. Download the software, and in a few minutes you could be contributing

I wondered if they don't recognise the 32bit version ?

Anyway, it seems to be doing work for Einsteinathome.org, which is fine. I have left the WCG project in my list, so when this current project is complete, perhaps it will have more luck

OK , I also joined Einsteinfoldathome.org and that is doing work, but have left world community grid also in my projects

Greetings,

I have an old Dell Dimension P4 2.6Ghz 2Gb memory running Debian 12. Its 32 bit and running headless, with gui disabled

I'd like to use it for something worthwhile

I've installed boinc, and configured it for world community grid successfully I believe , but I dont think its getting any tasks as confirmed by

$ boinccmd --get_tasks

======== Tasks ========
jonathan@debian:~$

I wonder if its age and architecture are a factor, and perhaps some other projects are more appropriate for these old timers ?

Happy to work on anything worthwhile
