Well, different people work at different times, also in Europe. The technicians usually start early and finish early, we hope to power up E@H at 4 PM CEST.

Einstein@Home will be shut down on Monday, Aug 14 at about 4 AM UTC due to necessary maintenance work on the power system of the data center. We expect to be back online roughly 36h later on Tuesday, Aug 15, at the end of the working day (2 PM UTC).

We'll post updates here.

Einstein@Home webserver (pages, scheduler) will be shut down for an OS upgrade. Planned for 1h, shouldn't take more than 2.

E@H is back!

> Disconnect all the loads downstream of the fuse and turn one or two back in at time until the fuse blows again.

The "machine room" covers the basement of a building with a couple of rooms, >100 racks with >2000 computers, two main UPS, several independent cooling systems etc. No chance to do such a thing manually.

Einstein@Home: external power has been restored a few hours ago, but the fuse to the machine room keeps blowing. We're looking for a shortcut or other reason. This will take longer than we hoped for.

Einstein@Home is down due to a (Uni Hanover) campus-wide power outage. The machines keep running on UPS, but the UPS that powers the network failed. It is unclear when power and operation can be restored, but it should be a matter of hours rather than days.

Albert@Home is down due to the conversion to Drupal. Unfortunately we found that we couldn't keep the web server running during conversion, affecting not only the web pages, but also scheduler, upload etc. Albert@Home doesn't have a dedicated DB server, we need basically all resources on that machine for converting the BOINC DB (user, forums) tables to the Drupal DB. If all goes well this time, Albert@Home will be back up later today; however we already had a few unsuccessful conversion attempts (each taking ~12h). More likely it will take until tomorrow.

The main Einstein@Home server crashed about half an hour ago with a filesystem error. Checking and repairing this will take a while. We are trying to keep the downtime below 24h.

Einstein@Home/Albert@Home pre-outage warning:
There is a planned power outage on the UWM campus affecting the physics building on Sat Nov 17, lasting from 7 AM - 2 PM local time (should be 1 PM - 8 PM UTC).

According to current plans the network connection to the outside world will be available, so we'll keep the core project servers running on UPS for that time, and ideally you here on Einstein@Home shouldn't notice anything (Albert@Home will be shut down, though). Not all may actually go according to plans, though.

The UPS failed. The project will be shut down immediately.

BM

Edit: Keep fingers crossed that it will come up again without problems.
