However, it appears that setting in the prefs for "While computer is in use" overrides the setting for "Use GPU while computer is in use":
The only time the GPU will do any work is when the CPUs are also doing work, otherwise all work units report 'suspended - user active' as soon as i move my mouse. I want to have the GPU always do work wheras my CPU rests until the user inactivity switch kicks in..

Ive tried editing the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\global_prefs_override.xml
<run_if_user_active>0</run_if_user_active>
<run_gpu_if_user_active>1</run_gpu_if_user_active>

I know how to do this since, i have also reinstated the boinc timout function <suspend_if_no_recent_input>144.0</suspend_if_no_recent_input> (which is not supported in the prefs gui) and figured out all the steps i need to do to get that to work just fine. I have also 'cleared' my prefs just to eliminate that variable and this problem still occurs, so it looks like to me that this function is broken (at least in my config).

I have Vista (64bit) and Boinc Manager version 6.6.20 (64bit)

i was not getting any work done, for some reason it kept saying inthe 'messages' section, that i didnt have enough memory:

Wed Jun 7 19:32:13 2006|SETI@home|Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)
Wed Jun 7 19:32:13 2006|SETI@home|Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 1497.4 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for maximum disk space used.

...even though i had a heck of a lot more than 1497.4 free and jsut to be sure, cleared off an additional 12 Gb, and restarted the computer, just to be sure. still no go, same error message... go figure...

Heres what fixed it:

I finally wandered into my "general preferences" for any project website (Boinc global prefs) and found my use no more than x disk space a set to 1.0 Gb. so it set it to 5 gb and now it works. (climateprediction was taking up 2.3gb so that migth have been the problem).

anyway, for what its worth, i think this (1.0 Gb) is/was the default so i could see a lot of other folkies having this same problem, especially since the error is so misleading...

anyway, please reply to this post if you this post helps you out of a similar predicament, fwiw, im wondering if people even try to request help from this forum since you cant use any search tools to find answers in these threads, it kind of seems like calling into the empty vacuum of space.

Just FYI to show what a pain this is...

The stderr.txt on my BOINC setup reached upwards of 16 Gb.
So i deleted it, and as usual the WimpXP system said that it had to delete it immediately sine it was too big, and of course as feared, it didnt actually delete the file...
The 'stderr.txt' file disappeared so i cant find it anymore, but it didnt free up any space whatsoever. Its caught in some limbo-land juat an invisible squatter taking up valuable space (my system down to less than a gig) and cant be freed by any amount of repeated reboots, 'chkdsk /F' runs, defragmenting, or searching through invisible system files to find it anywhere...

...so its another complete reinstall of WinXP for me (once again).
