You guys aren't going to believe this but I did a fresh Ubuntu install and a fresh BOINC install (like I've done several times before already) and for some reason boinc is fully working for me now. It starts, it connects, it allows me to go into Advance View and change my Preferences. I have no idea what sort of black magic juju occurred that made it start working but I'm not going to look this gift horse in the mouth.

Check your home directory for a file Boinc Manager-your user name If it is there, deleting this should get the manager to start again.

This solved the problem of BOINC Manager not doing anything when I click on the icon but it still gets hung up on start with the pop-up stating
Communicating with BOINC Client. Please wait.

I am running a fresh BOINC install from the Costa PPA on an Orange Pi 5 Plus running Ubuntu. The first few times I opened BOINC I had no issues other than the ones I covered in my previous post here but now when I try to start BOINC I either get nothing (as in the BOINC manager doesn't start at all, I just click on the icon as an exercise in futility) OR the BOINC manager starts but has a pop-up that states
BOINC Manager is communicating with the client. Please wait.

The problem is I'm assuming the BOINC Manager never actually communicated because it just sits at that screen. The longest I let it sit waiting to communicate was about 45 minutes before I gave up and closed BOINC Manager.

Now for the real fun part: when I run
htop
it shows BOINC as running tasks on all of my CPU threads (which it should be doing) but I still cannot get the BOINC Manager to start, it either doesn't start at all or gets stuck on the "Communicating with client" pop-up.

This may or may not be related to my previous post about the BOINC manager freezing when I try to switch to Advanced View or to check the Notices, but I'm too much of a Linux noob to make that determination.

Does anyone know why the BOINC Manager is being difficult and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I am trying to run BOINC on my Orange Pi 5 Plus running Ubuntu. I got BOINC installed, the compatible projects added and its crunching data but whenever I try to go to Options-Computing Preferences I just get a completely blank white screen that I can't change any options on. Whenever I try to switch from Simple View to Advanced View or check my Notices BOINC freezes completely and I continuously receive the error message of "boincmgr has failed to respond. you can either wait for the program to respond or force close the program" and no matter how many times I click "Wait" or actually physically just wait BOINC never unfreezes, so I'm basically stuck using the VERY light computing preferences because I can't access preferences in BOINC Manager and I can't switch to Advanced View to manage my tasks.

If anybody could help I would greatly appreciate it.

This is a fresh BOINC install from the Costa PPA on a fresh Ubuntu install, so their SHOULDN'T be any dependency/library issues but what do I know, I'm just a linux noob.
