Seems Sébastien will keep WUProp going, which is great news (see https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=14593&postid=107512#107512).

Don't know if already mentioned but I can't find it - WUProp@Home seems to be shut down permanently.

Homepage says:

Project end
I have no time to manage correctly the project.
So the work generation has been stopped and the project will be offline in a few days. 8 Mar 2022, 5:47:55 UTC

In addition to the previously mentioned projects (Rosetta, Folding*, https://Fold.it*,) IBM (through World Community Grid) will soon join research efforts with OpenPandemics https://www.ibm.org/OpenPandemics

Are there any projects working on the coronavirus? I would like to be a part of it. Thank you

"Servers Remain Up During Power Outage - Large swaths of Northern California, including the UC Berkeley Campus, are under a Public Safety Power Shutoff due to high winds and the associated wildfire risks. Our servers are located in the campus Data Center which is protected by a high capacity UPS. We expect that our servers will remain up for the duration of the outage. Thus far Internet connectivity also remains up although this depends on factors outside of the Data Center." I do hope every single person affected demands a refund and compensation for stuff that defrosts in freezers etc. It sounds like they have skimped on their infrastructure for years.
Hydro-Quebec, our local electric utility, makes clear that it's the customers' responsibility to have a backup energy source in case of emergency. I don't see why it wld be different for PG&E :/

I hope ac is back as soon as the santa anna winds subside. A few years ago power was cut off here during 2 weeks outside major urban centers due to freezing rains that damaged countless electrical pylons. Remediation measures have been taken by H-Qc to avoid this the next time it happens, but it sure was hell for those without backup energy sources (thankfully, family and community ressources were in place to help them go through).

And this on https://systemstatus.berkeley.edu now :

Attention

As you may know, PG&E has announced that most of the Bay Area is on alert for a potential power outage starting on Wednesday or Thursday, to guard against fire dangers that may accompany anticipated high winds. Parts of the campus community could be impacted if a power outage occurs in our area. Campus leaders and emergency officials are convening throughout the day today to gather the latest information from PG&E, and a follow up email will be sent to the campus community later today. To ensure you are getting the latest campus alerts as quickly as possible, please sign up for text alerts from WarnMe: https://warnme.berkeley.edu

Is there a chance that Boinc and Seti could lose power due to these possible wind shutdowns??
They are in Alameda county.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-10-08/california-utility-says-it-could-shutdown-power-to-nearly-30-counties-ahead-of-wildfire-friendly-weather

"This week’s power outage could hit a big part of Northern California, including the following counties: Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Mariposa, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, Tehama, Tuolumne, Yolo and Yuba."

Possibly, but with the move from the lab to the data center, that most likely has backup generators. (Not saying the lab doesn't because they support spacecraft operations in the building.)

- Wether they are on crutches or riding a BFR, this friendly competition will feature 3 winning participants ranked by their total accumulated credits, and based on the same criteria will be featured three winning teams and (get ready for this one) astrological signs groups; There s something for everyone !
- Additional benefits are the bragging rights associated with our team's participation in this event, another is that all Carl Sagan teammates will receive (or haev received) a personalized invitation to register and participate from no one else than the team founder - to proudly print, display in their office and cherish forever ! :)
- Follow the Wow! Event as it progresses until the final winning teams are pronounced on Aug. 30th. Even if your team didn't reach one of the three top pole positions, perhaps your group did ? What matters is that you were there in Time and Space, and that is reason enough to celebrate :)

OpenZika Nears End of Work on World Community Grid https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=598

Source: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=41723&offset=0#612504

Right now, there is a pause in work units while our developers and the researchers build approximately 20,000 new batches. Once those are launched (in 1-2 weeks), they will be the final work units for the project.

We don't know how exactly how long it will take for volunteers to process these work units--our rough estimate is that the final work will be done in late September or early October.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project! The Zika virus may not be front-page news anymore in much of the world, but it's still a threat. Your support has been very important.

We will likely have a break in work available for this project starting in about a week when existing work runs out. The break is expected to be short based on estimates from the researchers (current estimates are a break of less than a week).
