I recently updated to BOINC Mgr 7.4.36. Now it seems there is a problem with startup and shutdown of the two Projects I have configured. In the past, when I booted my system, the BOINC Manager Icon would appear in the SysTray and after a configured delay, the project tasks would start. If I opened BOINC manager UI would see the Projects and tasks running. When I selected Exit from the systray icon, the tasks would shutdown. Now when I boot, the BOINC Manager opens and no projects or tasks are displayed but the tasks do start. If I open BOINC Manager from the systray icon, a second BOINC Manager window opens and I see the tasks running. When I select Exit from the systray icon, the tasks won't shutdown. I select Suspend and that works. It seems I may have two BOINC Managers running and things are getting confused. Or there could be something else going on I can't see. How do I fix this? Thanks for your help, John |

The clue from your post suggests that you have updated Boinc by installing over the previous version you had. Try uninstalling than Reinstalling BOINC and see if that problem still exists. |

I spoke too soon. I am still having this problem. When I log on to my system, a BOINC Manager window opens. But there are no projects displayed. There is a boinctray icon displayed. When I click that, a second BOINC Manager window opens and the projects and tasks are displayed there. I can suspend the tasks from the systray icon, but can't terminate them. If I Exit from the first BOINC window, the projects exit. I have uninstall BOINC Manager and re-installed both an older version and the newest version and both exhibit this behavior. The uninstall is leaving the old setting around so maybe the problem is related to that. I did abort all tasks but the problem remained. What should I try now? Do I need to purge all the settings and start fresh? How to do that? What will that do to my accumulated stats and other data? Thanks for your help, John |

When I log on to my system, a BOINC Manager window opens. When in this BOINC Manager window, what version does it say it is when you go Help->About BOINC Manager? ...When I click that, a second BOINC Manager window opens and the projects and tasks are displayed there. Similarly here, what version does this say it is when you go Help->About BOINC Manager? I suspect you have a 32bit and a 64bit BOINC installed on your system, which live in separate program directories. the 32bit version lives by default in C:\Program Files (x86)\BOINC\ and the 64bit version in C:\Program Files\BOINC\ It is probably possible to start a 32bit and 64bit version of BOINC Manager without these interfering with each other. Only the version whose Programs directory is stored in the registry will be able to make contact with the BOINC client in the corresponding directory and with any work in the data directory. Also, older versions of BOINC started not from the registry as present day versions do, but using a BOINC Manager shortcut in the Startup folder in Windows Start button->All Programs->Startup You may want to check there as well and delete any shortcuts to BOINC Manager that are there. |

Hello here :) I got a similar problem i didn't find in the forum. (spank me if i'm wrong, i love it). When i start SaintWindows, Boinc starts. If i told Boinc to not start with SaintWindows, it still starts. If i told CCleaner to shut the mouth of Boinc when SaintWindows starts, Boinc still starts. Then i have to open the task manager and shut Boinc myself. I use to open boinc when i want, when i know i'm not using my computer (like i let a download or a file transfert). I think it's not good for my Karma ! I got a Win7 64bits, the last version of Boinc (updated recently), and run SETI and Einstein programs only. Do you had heard of a problem like this before ? :) Be kind, it's just machines ! ;) Thanks and cheers ! Don't look the sky too often. You have people who love you too, here. Look them in the eyes. There you'll see much more stars. Even yourself. Enjoy life, little human ! |

I got a similar problem i didn't find in the forum. Actually, you don't have a similar problem to the one that this thread is about. In the case of the thread, two BOINC Managers open, with only one of them working. So I'd rather you start your own thread about your problem, and when you do that, that you at least explain to us what SaintWindows is, because I don't know and I cannot find anything about it in Google Searches. |

I have solved my problem. My issue was caused because I had entries in the registry to start BOINC Manager from two registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run I think I did this to myself because I was trying to prevent BOINC from starting when I logon as my administrator account. Sometime in the past I moved the run entries to the HKCU key, but the install of the new BOINC Manager recreated the run entry in the HKLM key. Is there a supported way to make it start from a specific user only? |
