So when I was running XP my 2.53 P4 had the following:

Measured floating point speed 1269.84 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 2489.73 million ops/sec

Now, the exact same machine under Linux reads:

Measured floating point speed 594.17 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 1610.06 million ops/sec

This is a BIG difference...any way to fix it...aside from re-installing Windoze anyhoo.

I have noticed the same problem also. Loaded both Ubuntu and Suse on two different machines. Before installing Linux, using Windows and the UD interface, my mflops reading was twice as high. Even ran the software for about a month on each machine, and it showed that my daily average points were running about half as much as when I would run Windows/UD agent. Sure would like someone to help???

The linux and windows clients benchmark differently. The same machine will benchmark higher under windows and lower under linux.

WEll then mabey I shouldn't do a Linux installation. I have an ubuntu linix box I just finished building on the 5th. I downloaded the Linux Client for BOINC and unlike windows, it doesn't just run and install. It says I need to install it using a terminal session.
I am NEW to Linux and i can find a terminal session and I can see the folder that contains that download i need to use. NOW I need instructions on how to get to the folder and how to install the software. I type 'ls' and i see the folders. I thought to get to a folder I would use 'CD' and type the name of the folder 'boinc'. It don't work! Next?????

Here is the link for Linux installation.

If linux is to succeed it will have to be as EASY as windows to use. I am willing to learn if someone will help me thru the steps.
Crunching for SCIENCE not CREDITS.
