I have a few requests for features for BOINC.

1. Allow ascending/descending sorting by clicking on the column headers - and remember the last sort used for each page when BOINC is loaded. If possible, allow sorting by several columns - e.g. on the Tasks page, it would be possible to sort first by project, then by deadline, then by percentage completed in reverse order.

2. In the "All Projects (Sum) graph, add a (preferably optional) line showing the sum of all projects. Allow user-selected colours for graph lines.

3. Bring back the pie charts for disk space usage: Total disk space (BOINC, non-BOINC and free space), and each project's usage of the total available BOINC disk space.

4. On the Projects tab, add an extra line at the bottom that sums the Work Done and Average Work Done columns.

5. Add an "Update All Projects" command, or restore the effect that selecting "Retry Communications" would cause all projects to update.

6. Update the screen saver so that it will run in preview mode - and can optionally show different work units' graphics on different monitors - if the PC has multiple monitors and CPUs.
Preview mode is important for multiple-monitor PCs - several screen savers running in preview mode can be made to appear on different monitors, while non-preview-capable screensavers such as BOINC's can only run by themselves.

What was the reason for changing the "Retry Communications" option for 5.4.x?
Any chance of getting it back?

That one was a bug.

When using it now retries all deferred communications.

Oh, okay. I liked that bug. You know if Microsoft had a bug like that they'd charge you for it and call it "Microsoft BOINC Enhanced 2009" ;-)

Is there any other way to trigger all the results waiting to report?

Yeah, I knew about that one, I was kind of hoping for a one button soloution. :) Oh well, I'll see what I can do, I've got quite a few projects.
Thanks Ageless

Well, you could also lower your "connect to network" if it is high, as reporting is done at:

1) The next work request from a project.
2) 24 hours before the deadline.
3) Immediately if the work is completed later than 24 hours before the deadline.
4) Connect every X days after the work is completed.
5) With the next trickle (CPDN only at this point).
6) When the user clicks update.
7) Connect every X days before the report is due. (new with 5.4).

Thanks Ageless that's terific, I didn't know that, with the exception of the "Connect every". I'll keep a copy of that and I'll drop my "Connect every.." down a bit. I've got it at 1.00 Days at the moment, so I probably missed any 24 hour triggers :-( my bad.

I'd like to see that Boinc reports the CPU time used and credit claimed on the messages tab when a work unit is finished. Yes, the CPU time is on the work tab too, but that isn't logged.
And please remove that panel on the left with those Big Ugly Buttons, and replace it by context menus (rightclicking) like in Boinc 4.19 and earlier, or add an extra menu item with the same function. These buttons take too much space, even with a 1280x1024 resolution. And if there are so many buttons that a scrollbar is needed, the effect is counterproductive. Or is rightclicking for nerds only?

There is a new (simpler) GUI coming for BOINC 5.6

Or is rightclicking for nerds only?

It's done this way as the Boinc Manager is now universal for all platforms, including the Mac. Last I checked not all Macs had mice with more than one button.

Macs with a one button mouse do have context menus: keep it depressed for half a second and there you have it...
