It seems like the capacity of my battery has really taken a nosedive lately... When I'm not actively using it at work I have been putting it into Airplane mode to conserve battery, as it will barely last through a workday if I don't, whereas before it go through to bedtime with around 20% charge left. I was just wondering if crunching might have any affect on it, due to heat during computing or other factors. And YES, it's currently set to only compute while charging--and only at a minimum battery level of 60%.

The device in question is a Samsung Galaxy S3, which I've had for about a year and a half... My previous phone, the original Galaxy S had much better battery performance out of the box and didn't suffer from the same drop-off in performance.

I suppose a better term for this might be "battery fatigue"?

So if you're asking whether computing on battery will have any effect on the battery, yes. I let it compute a little when I'm not using it during the day and it uses far more battery than when the phone is just idle.

When it's computing while using the battery as power source, obviously. I am talking about computing while the device is plugged in. I recently changed the "Min. battery level" to 90% from 60%, and overall battery life seems to have improved some. Even though the phone would report being at 100% charge when being disconnected under both settings it seems that either the battery would not really achieve a full charge when computing started earlier in the charge process, or there was enough of a drain even while plugged in to draw down the battery but not enough for the meter to notice.

Even though things have improved a bit, it may be time for a new battery.
