Hi Everyone

I have a question about whether the projects communicate my info/config directly between each other.

Say I use Computer A crunching SETI@Home, and use Computer B crunching Rosetta@Home.

Will the information like "Computers on this account" be sync between projects?

How about the Computing preferences?

Do I have to crunch all the projects on all the computers to make the info/config synced?

Cheers

I think a bump for a post that's been up for less than 24 hours is a but unnecessary...

Only computers that are attached to the project and have communicated with it will show up on the hosts page at each project. There is a bit of synching between projects, in that your account and each host will have a cross-project identifier so that your account and host(s) can be uniquely identified across all projects for purposes such as stats tracking. However, these are prone to error and get orphaned every now and then; the dreaded "split CPID" can be fixed by ensuring that you have at least one host attached to all projects you have credit on and giving it some time to reset and sync.

Preferences are not synched across projects, though you can use an account manager to take care of this and other features. However, BOINC is supposed to use the set of preferences that were most recently updated so that's not really necessary-just pick a single project at which to make your preferences change and BOINC will use those preferences.

Preferences are not synched across projects

The project preferences aren't no, but the computing preferences are. That's also why, in their URL, they're called global preferences.

e.g. https://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/prefs.php?subset=global

The trick to sync them though is called activity. Only your active projects will see the RPC that syncs these preferences set at one project when BOINC communicates with the other project server(s).

Of course, this depends on the computer being set to the same venue across all projects. A project at NNT will not necessarily sync their global preferences, unless you specifically Update the project.

So, you set the preferences at project A.
Next you update BOINC on project A, so BOINC has these latest preferences in.
Any of the other projects BOINC now contacts will automatically receive the new preferences.

None of my other projects have the same preferences as the one project I've been recently using to update preferences. Something isn't working right if it should be as you describe.

I had been using BOINCstats BAM to manage my preferences, but there was a bug that was erroneously causing BOINC to "Suspend computation while computer is in use". Haven't heard of any updates on that problem, nor have I tried updating preferenes through BAM yet. http://boincstats.com/en/forum/18/9222
