Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but my bitcoin miner is virtually useless for mining bitcoins any longer.

Is its computing power of any use to BOINC? I've used some old boxes for SETI@Home for years, and I was wondering if my new paperweight can be put to some valuable use.

I purchases the hardware from Butterfly Labs. I can't find the 5GH/s (gigahash per second, a bitcoin measure of velocity) model, but it basically looks like the 10GH/s model on their current website.

If you want to use some performance/Watt miner try out Bi Fury USB with 5+ GH/s, around 5W. The computing power has not any use to BOINC but you can run the Bitcoin Utopia Project (using BOINC) for mining litecoins and others except bitcoins for different crowdfunding projects.

I assume you're talking about an ASIC or FPGA device? I don't know of any BOINC projects that can currently make use of that; right now, support is pretty much limited to CPU and GPU. Anything you can contribute in those categories is always welcome. There could be support for other devices in the future.
