It's a real shame that Bruce hasn't been given a warmer welcome on this forum. Mr C**tingham, if you are the real distributed computing enthusiast who is keen enough on boinc projects to have created this sig for himself, could I suggest that you ditch these five less worthy projects and join some of us instead at ClimatePrediction.net where your contribution will be more highly valued? If you are not the Bruce-who-joined-boinc, you may still join us on our forum, where we have a special section for members with problems. A select group of moderators there is highly experienced in dealing with problems of every imaginable type:

Bruce, I forgot to tell you that on one of the ClimatePrediction forums the moderators can, if they suspect anybody of spamming, look at their IP number while they're posting. If anyone is following you round on the web to download stuff onto your PC, this could be a good way of finding clues about who it is. Of course, we wouldn't look at your own IP number because we don't suspect you of anything, so your privacy wouldn't be compromised any more than it already appears to be. |

Does 'Bruce' qualify for a consolation prize of free extra credits on submission of the HijackThis log? |

Does 'Bruce' qualify for a consolation prize of free extra credits on submission of the HijackThis log? Um, since he's trying to get rid of the thing, does it matter? In that case, I think I can arrange an extra 10. |

Bruce! If you are one of the wise people who turn off their computer before going away on holiday, and you tell us the dates you were away in August, or the dates your internet connection was down, I think I have a fail-safe method of detecting whether your own computer is the same one that belongs to boinc member Mr C**tingham. |

At the beginning of the first page of these message boards it states - "Please use these boards only for messages related to BOINC software: questions, bug reports, feature requests, etc." Not to make jokes, belittle, spam and etcetera from the peanut gallery. Now I know there may be some that post for help but are actually just trolling and this may be the case here since the initial poster has some rather incoherent and evasive posts and also has stopped replying. But if there is no usefulness to the responding posts then they are a waste of BOINC message board server space and tends to piss people off if they have a legitimate question. Unanswerable or stupid stuff has a tendency to fall off the bottom of the boards. BTW Pepo. Good work on dragging Bruce's posts into Cafe Seti for the readers amusement there. Pat yourself on the back and smile with pride. |

I'm sorry for all who felt offensed by my behaviour, you are just right with your arguments. No pride on my side, I simply hate threating innocent ones. I was observing many such cases some 10 years ago in German c't magazine - one attorney/layman/idontknowwho chosed one unclear case each few months and tried to win a bunch of money (== to cash in?) on it, althoug gaining a lot of negative popularity. After reading first bunch of Bruce's posts (exactly the same wording style as the spams like "A customer of my bank died few years ago and I've chosen you as a partner to transfer his money away from my country" etc.) and having some conversation afterwards I was pretty sure that Bruce is lying (the Seti.B joke), otherwise this would be another known Seti virus case. Then I tried to give him another chance with some hints - as you can see, he never responded constructively to any poster here. I admit I tried also to prove him wrong, but this is also not possible without any response. If he had a legitimate question... Peter |

It's obvious from his post here that he knows perfectly well he downloaded and is running SETI. The other projects can't have appeared in his boinc by accident. As there are several possible solutions to the problems he's reported, it's a pity he hasn't posted back and talked things through. |

Currently the only obvious solution for me (because of his wording style) is that there is no Seti (he was sure talking about the Classic one) running on his machine _and_ he is not the Bruce Cottingham who runs these projects on Boinc. Peter |

Guenter Freiherr von Gravenreuth - he is possibly known to many German IT-people :-( Peter |
