I recently posted this to the client forum but got no response in a week yet: I installed BOINC 7.2.33 on a new Win7-X64 machine. In all accounts but admin the boinc.exe client would repeatedly crash as is was trying to run with user credentials and boincmgr could not attach. I could not find out why non-admin accounts could not run it. Finally resorted to a service thread type installation with BOINC's own unprivileged account forgoing the use of the GPU. But then the client.exe would run without issues and boincmgr could be used from all accounts. For any insights I would be grateful. |

This appears to be the problem described in trac ticket [trac]#1025[/trac]. As you can see from the final comment ("Problem appears to continue into v7.2.23 and beyond."), I re-raised the question when version 7.2.xx was being prepared for release three months ago - we had some brief discussion with the developers (there are threads on this boards which go into further detail), but they concluded it couldn't be fixed in the time-scale they wanted for the v7.2.23 release. It looks like we're gearing up for v7.2.38 sometime in the next 24 hours: too late for that one too, but I'll send the developers a reminder email. |
