I have trouble installing the recommended version BOINC 5.4.9 on my WIN XP sp2 machine.

I tried installing over my existing 5.4.4 (developemnt)
Upgrading to 5.4.9 It would either

    * install and not be able to connect to the local host
    * it would install and then say there was an internal error 2753 in boincmgr.exe

Re-installing 5.4.4 and running a repair lets the manager connect to the local host and examine the local workunits.

I have currently reverted back to 5.4.4

I would appreciate any assistance to help me install/upgrade a working BOINC 5.4.9

Have you tried to uninstall 5.4.4 before installing 5.4.9?

internal error 2753 is a Windows installer error. Make sure your Windows Installer is up to date. Check through Windows Update, or get the latest from here.

I now have 5.4.9 installed.

I need to install it and then repair the 5.4.9 installation.

I also had to tell the firewall the manager was allowed to connect to the local network (which may or may not have had anything to do with the can't connect to local host)
